"Course du Cul d'Enfer" in Mondeville south of Paris. Sort of a trail half marathon.
Took it very very easy, especially at the beginning...not really fit enough for this kind of race so just treated it as a group long run (getting a bit bored of Meudon).
Tired at the beginning, but good from 5 to 15k, then a little tired at the end, but held out well and good speed to the finish.
4 hills altogether (about 60m each), of which 2 runnable and 2 not runnable (one even had a rope to get up it), plus some assorted longish uphills. And the running was half on tracks, half on (very) muddy trails, and it was the kind of slippery gooey mud, not the splashy mud!
It's funny to watch the other runners, most of which I presume have relatively little experience of running on this stuff, compared to me: a guy who would generally be running away from me on a flat or downhill track would be even with me going on an uphill track, and a lot slower on the muddy trails and on the steep uphills. It seems people very quickly start to walk on the steep uphills even where it's still easy to run, and they are really really careful on the mud (especially downhill), so that's where I got a lot of time out on them (where it was possibly to pass, not easy in general)
Happy I did it though - lots of fun
