Running 10:00 [2] 1.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

warmup

Orienteering 1:24:53 [3] 8.6 km (9:52 / km) +375m 8:06 / km

Greater Paris individual champs.

Theoretically "the" ideal race for me, amazingly technical terrain (www.ofrance.free.fr/carosse.htm), and a great course with 27 technical controls. So, I figured I had a good chance of winning this one.

But then, it never happens the way you think it will. I had gone training with Abi just the previous evening for an hour and felt tired, and this morning I just felt really drained, as if I had just finished intervals half an hour earlier..so it turned out to be rather unenjoyable, because I had to spend all the time focusing on running and no time focusing on finding controls. So I ended up making a 4-minute mistake (first in a long time) and a bunch of small mistakes. Plus I fell over all the time as the terrain was really rocky and slippery.

Ended up 3rd in the champs, pretty lucky really as I had a bunch of people behind me. 2nd was 3 minutes ahead, easy on a normal day, but 1st was 15 minutes ahead! An amazing run (congratulations Jean-Marc) that even on a good day I would have had great difficulty in coming close to.

Meudon run with Abi. Decent effort, good legs, body a bit tired. Lovely to be out in the forest!

Running 41:36 [4] 9.5 km (4:23 / km)

Short run back through Bois.

Did it 3mins fast, 1 min easy for 6 reps plus warmup and down.

Fastest time ever on this run, funny that. Probably because the "fast" ones were just that bit faster than normal, so that the "slow" ones didnt matter so much - just an excuse for speeding up really

Running 42:52 [4] 9.5 km (4:31 / km)

Short run home through Bois, a good effort. Pushed a little bit more than last week but not enormously. Felt pretty good even though it was late again (around 10pm), especially pleased about good feeling all the way through to the end. Even the knee hurt less than before.

Strength 30:00 [3]

2 sets, for the first time in a long while, so took about 20% off the usual number of reps

muscles tingled afterwards, which I took as a good sign!
