Wimbledon Common MapRun v3

Very enjoyable this one, despite all the green. Navigation was pretty solid except for one 30' mistake, and I didn't have to wait *too* long for the beeps anywhere.

Hamstring dodgy, but the osteopath visit on Friday helped. I reckon osteopaths are the great undiscovered magicians of medicine.

Tired but hung in there. Lovely day for running.

Calf and hamstring held up, possibly helped by wearing compression socks while running. They look awful but they feel pretty good.

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (Oost) to Amsterdam Centre (Dam), via Amsterdamse Bos, Vondelpark and some sights.

Day trip out of the UK, B787 (proper) business class one way courtesy of air miles. Once there, took the bus to the right side of the airport and then ran through the rain using some sketchy internet maps. Arrived in the centre completely drenched and walked into a nice local cafe explaining I wanted lunch but first needed to get changed into some dry gear - the Dutch are a pretty chilled lot, so this wasn’t an issue except they had the world’s tiniest toilet, so involved some impressive yoga moves.

Great fun and ok speed despite the various niggles. Amazing to be somewhere else than Kingston and I’d forgotten quite how hip (most of) Amsterdam is, especially for shopping, food and a proliferation of barbers.

Now for the moral quandary - in the blue corner of the argument, I’m more at risk of catching Corona on a trip than sitting at home. In the red corner, life needs to go on and money needs to start flowing in the economy again. Today there were hand sanitiser stations and face masks everywhere so I felt more ‘at risk’ in my local pub on Saturday, so on balance it feels ok.

The UK still has quarantine from all countries on arrival until tomorrow at 23:59, so I shall now not leave the house for the next 36 hours. But it was definitely worth it.
