Gibraltar Airport to Rock of Gibraltar (top of), via all the sights.
So Gibraltar is the only place left that you can go from the UK and back without test or quarantine either side, presumably because it’s a British Overseas Territory.
Conveniently, BA has two daily flights so off I went on the 7.10 to arrive before 11 in a windy but warm Gibraltar. Even more conveniently, the airport is right next to town (there not being any other option) and indeed the main road into town crosses the runway so must be shut every time a plane lands or departs.
Got changed in the airport loos as usual, and went off to explore the rock’s sights, which are surprisingly varied - a Moorish castle, military tunnels, a cave, suspension bridge, Skywalk, various batteries and the ‘Mediterranean steps’ up the really steep bit round the back. Oh and of course the Barbary macaques, which are every bit as cheeky as advertised - one literally blocked my path and refused to move (I climbed around, he wasn’t pleased), and another jumped on my back in search of food (it took a good shake to get him off.) It was a shame not to have Boris around to provide further insight.
Rather than run first, do sights later, I decided to combine both and ran 10-15 minutes between each, with stops of various lengths for visits. So elapsed time was nearer 3 hours, and I ended up doing more than twice the Rock’s height in climb to string everything together.
Finished at the top station of the Cable Car and got a free ride down courtesy of a friendly Gibraltarian. After that, a quick walk through town (surprisingly nice) and back across the runway to the airport.
