Day 2 of DVOA Queen of the Hill, at Fair Hill - Big Elk. Beautiful weather, 60s, warm for November.
Legs felt very heavy today, tired throughout the race. And some very sloppy navigation made for a disappointing result.
#3 control was well hidden between two rootstocks, did a nice loop, 1 min.
#4 control by root stock, I saw the fallen tree and looked carefully for the control, didn't see it for some strange reason and did another loop to look for another rootstock. 1.5 min
#7 was a fight to get through the green and I ended up more E than expected, and so was confused about where I was. 1 min.
#10 spectacular example of being overconfident in a complex deep green area with lots of mountain bike trails. Small parallel error led to misinterpreting an intersection and running N instead of E on a trail, then getting very confused about where I was and running back and forth a bit. 3 mins.
#15, hjärnsläpp, maybe because I was very tired thought I was further down the path than I was and thought I had run too far, went back, still didn't see the path intersection I was looking for, starting theorizing the path was hidden (!) until it clicked. 3 minutes according to attackpoint, but don't think my confusion cost more than 1.5. Rest was because I walked uphill, too tired.
#16, managed to get direction confused around the horse fields, 30 secs.
10 minutes in total which is ridiculous on a course like this. Very disappointed with sloppy navigation, on top of tired legs.
