Note
(rest day)

Travel Day. Very long. Not helped by a cowboy camp last night.

Note
(sick)

A word to the wise. Don’t eat at a Moab restaurant that has a ‘B’ hygiene rating in the window. It makes for a difficult final few hours in the car and then at home.
In other news there was a fatality on the Via last Thursday. The Sheriffs department say it wasn’t due to hardware failure. If they haven’t slipped then they can’t have been paying any attention at all. I thought it’s fool proof.

Performance wise…..today was a good day. It was nice not to be DO’d on a relay. (I was meticulous in checking codes and twice my dibber didn’t register so I went back. But I made sure.) Regardless of results, if I’m running sub 5k’s (CORRECTION not sub 5's, my download is BS, but good enough) in terrain it’s like a Trump fan with a COVID test….positive.
Great to be out orienteering and meeting people, new and old.
NB. Tahoe is cracking when you can see it. We’ve had a great family holiday.

Best run by a mile and Wyatt still smashed me by 25 mins. From the descent from 6 I really hit a wall. I'd made significant mistakes earlier, but the wheels well and truly came off after a fall to 7. Wanted to throw up from that point on. At 4 I added about 400m+ just to take in water on the way. (Even though I was going back that way 10 mins later.) I really struggled with the conditions. Biggest mistakes came at 7 and 10 purely from "I really don't give a shit anymore" attitude. I didn't move for 45 mins in the arena. I can't think of a harder O Race. Even on fell races/road races I've had stomach issues after, but never wanted to chunder right there and then while moving.
I thought the navigation was harder than a budgie's beak. Managed to generally keep it together for a change.
NB. Kendal won again today. This weekend has given her a major confidence boost. (She really liked Boris's opening announcement that she was leading. It's the little things that mean so much. And that meant a ton.)
Eadie bailed today. Which was a positive in its self. I think today would have crushed the kid.

Orienteering 30:37 [1] ** 3.71 km (8:15 / km) +123m 7:04 / km

Compass work at Burton Creek. Nice out. Actual blue sky from the top. Seem to keep aiming off to the left. Hit all the features without any major issues.
NB. US Middle postponed due to air quality. Waiting on word for this afternoon. Going stir crazy.
2 PM

Orienteering 52:26 [3] 6.52 km (8:02 / km) +172m 7:06 / km
ahr:150 max:178

WTF Part II. Lots of little errors, but literally 2mins at the start triangle and number 4 was about 50 mins. (One contour too high).
Other than that bring on tomoz.
NB. Kendal did really well. Eadie, errrrr....not so much.

WTF. Too much to write about so move on to tomorrow. The best thing about today was the event. I thought it was bewt. (I was nervous after Big Basin). Both the girls did a good job too. Really good job.
NB. Tahoe smoke is bad.

(rest day)

Yep, sore shoulders. Bit of stretching.

Drowning 22:22 [3] 1.0 km (22:22 / km)

10x100m. With Anders who did 2000m in the same time.
Shoulders are going to feel like they’ve done a year’s worth of Spike’s garden work tomorrow.
