Orienteering 56:57 [4] 8.4 km (6:47 / km) +305m 5:44 / km
ahr:163 max:172 spiked:7/11c

SDO B meet at Mt. Laguna, Blue. Fast terrain with a nicely planned course (thanks Donna), some route choice. The Blue course was about 3 km too short, however, and had a couple of hidden bags. I was even with Andy Dale for all of the legs that I did not lose time on—an achievement compared to August and May.

Orienteering 40:44 [3] 5.7 km (7:09 / km) +230m 5:57 / km
ahr:159 max:178 spiked:9/9c

A Green to get the missing km. Some leg re-runs from the Blue.

Note

Hydration log: Annabel found some weird Czech beer that honzau never heard of. It was good.

Easy running 1:05:04 [2] 13.3 km (4:54 / km)

Home–>work. S*y air between El Camino and 101.

Easy running 1:09:01 [2] 13.3 km (5:11 / km)

Work to new home. Some map reading through southern Sunnyvale suburbia.

Wednesday Oct 2, 2002 #

Easy running 13:33 [1] 2.4 km (5:39 / km)

To #54 bus stop, early morning.

Easy running 11:13 [1] 1.7 km (6:36 / km)

To Baylands park, after (during?) work.

Short intervals 50:43 [5] 8.0 km (6:20 / km) +190m 5:40 / km
ahr:150 max:174

There are four man-made knolls in Baylands, each about (3.0 +/– 0.5) m tall, in a row; a straight trail goes over the knolls, and another trail parallels it at sea level, skipping the knolls. The hilly part of the loop is (250 +/– 10) m—I paced it today. The level part is just a touch longer.
I did 16×250 over the knolls, jogging back down the sea-level trail. 53.9 54.9 52.0 51.0 49.6 51.6 51.2 52.5 53.0 53.6 52.6 53.0 52.7 54.9 53.5 51.9.

Note

Hydration log: some Becherovka, left over from the CZ trip (bonus points to anyone who knows what Becherovka is without looking it up). It's supposed to be good for you somehow, but I don't know if the dead liver/pancreactic cells share the same opinion.

Easy running 38:20 [2] 6.8 km (5:38 / km)

Groceries. The air was awful this morning, and this here is supposed to be the best air-quality metro area in the States.

Note

Hydration log: Sonoma Chardonnay (acceptable but just barely so—just a hint of complexity), 750 ml, the whole thing. I do know my limit, and it is 550 ml.

Easy running 19:47 [2] 3.7 km (5:21 / km)

Medium pace running 42:01 [4] 5.92 mi (7:06 / mi) +95m 6:46 / mi
ahr:172 max:185

A threshold run, on a treadmill. Did 2×15 min + 2 min, plus the servo-up and 2×(about 5 min rest) in-between. The threshold runs were at 8.7–9.4 mi/hr at 1% incline.
The plan was 2×20 min + 10 min. But I was nowhere up for that. I only had 2000 kCal for all of Sun and today, mostly Harvest bars left over from the rogaine. I am, like, totally broke after a 2.67 k$ apartment move-in—no food until paycheck comes. Weighed at 158—another 4 off would be fine before the US Champs, but not required.
The HR was too high and I felt like was going over the threshold most of the time for any pace faster than 9.0. Oh, and I also chose a bad time, after work—people were lining up for the treadmill.

ST = 842 (R = 51).
