Event: HVO A-Meet
 

Orienteering race 1:35:00 [4] **** 6.6 km (14:24 / km)

First day of Surebridge meet. Had a fun, enjoyable run. Blew it on the way to #5 as I didn't have a good attack point and got confused along a long stretch of cliffs. In the latter part of the race, I kept converging with the same 2-3 orienteers.

Hale reservation on a wet and rainy day. Green course.
Made 2 big mistakes which cost me about 15 minutes each:

  • I lost a contact lenses on the way to 1, misread the map after punching 2 and spiked 5 instead of going to 2; got confused finding 2 from 5.
  • Control 7 was described as a thicket. A boulder was marked on the map. I spiked the reentrant that was in the circle, couldn't find a thicket, didn't see a boulder,convinced myself I was in the wrong place, thrashed around.... The control was just to the north of the reentrant I spiked, up a steep slope and out od view from the reentrant.,,,
