Orienteering (Sprint) 22:06 [4] 1.79 mi (12:23 / mi) +196ft 11:13 / mi
shoes: Saucony Cohesion

Highland Park Sprint. No real big mistakes, just a few relatively minor non-optimum route choices.

Orienteering (Random-O) 40:43 [3] 3.21 mi (12:42 / mi) +242ft 11:51 / mi
shoes: Saucony Cohesion

Highland Park Random-O. 24 controls, any order, but unlike a score-O, you had to get all 24. I DNF'd as I neglected to get one of the controls (#158). It was far enough from the start/finish area that when I downloaded and found I had missed it, I was absolutely not motivated to go back and get it.

Pickleball 1:45:00 [2]

8 people at Webster Park courts. I played right handed the whole time, plus I switched to my heavier paddle for the last 3 games. I play much better with the heavier paddle but I've heard (and mostly believe) that lighter paddles are better in terms of avoiding elbow problems. So I'll see if the 3 games I played with the heavier paddle result in any elbow discomfort later today or tomorrow.

Walk/run (Dog walk) 30:01 [3] 2.88 mi (10:26 / mi) +178ft 9:51 / mi
shoes: New Balance MT461GO

Hojack trail, with Homer and trailsnail.

Walk/run (Dog walk) 38:02 [3] 3.62 mi (10:30 / mi) +40ft 10:23 / mi
shoes: Saucony Cohesion

Hojack Trail walk/run, with Homer. Two stops at a stream for a swim for him.

I backed off to 1:15 running / 0:45 walking. Even though my knees felt fine during the Trail Challenge, my left knee has been a bit noticeable since then. And it did bother me today for the first couple of running intervals, then it was OK. I'm a little concerned about it, that I may well be aggravating it by the minimal amount of running I'm doing.

My left knee had been the first one to be an issue, over the last few years, on and off, then my right knee quickly surpassed my left to become my problem one. The right one is the one that the MRI was done on and revealed torn cartilage. My PC physician said that torn cartilage can heal or partially heal itself with enough rest, so maybe the 6 months or so that I basically totally took off of running helped that knee to get better. Which is good, but I'm puzzled as to why my left knee didn't also get nice and healed during that time period ...

Orienteering (Trail Challenge) 1:07:24 [4] 5.5 mi (12:15 / mi)
shoes: Montrail Mt Masochist Mar 2011

Webster Trail Challenge. Not a good day in lots of respects. I forgot to bring my e-punch stick, and I forgot to bring my compass. So I borrowed a club e-punch stick, and I could have borrowed a compass but I commented to Anne that I really shouldn't need one for a Trail Challenge type race in Webster Park. However, I also commented that nearly any time in the past when I decided I didn't need a compass, there would come a time when I really wish I had a compass ....

Then I took a very poor route choice going into Whiting Rd., but I wasn't alone, lots of people were expecting to be able to take this indistinct trail into the park which would cut off quite a bit of distance. Being late summer, however, the trail was basically totally overgrown and at a minimum medium green. I probably lost 5 minutes or so there.

Later, in Webster Park, I wound up turning down a wrong trail and not recognizing it for a while. If I had had a compass (what a brilliant idea of something to have along when orienteering!), I would have realized it within seconds, but I wound up losing probably 5-10 minutes. Fortunately the sun was out at that time so I had some way of knowing a rough direction, which is what confirmed that I was on the wrong trail, eventually.

Then, my GPS (Garmin 205 -- the replacement for the new one which acted up and then died a few weeks ago, when it was less than a week old) started acting up and then eventually died. Right now, it won't turn on at all, even when hooked up to the computer. Needless to say, I'm NOT happy with Garmin these days.

To top it off, there were issues with getting results off of the e-punch sticks at the finish. So I have no idea how far I covered today, and also no idea of how long it took. The 75 minutes and 5 miles are both pretty wild guesses. (NOTE: Actual time was 67:24, and I increased the estimated distance to 5.5 miles due to a couple of errors.)

The good thing is that I didn't get hurt, and my knees didn't bother me at all. And I was able to run a lot of the time, but by no means all.
