Backcountry skiing 5:00:00 [2] +2150m

Thought we might get some light snow today but the weather held and only thin cloud. Skied Renette's Rib to the valley and then a short climb over to Cruiser before heading up Bavarian. One run in the trees, one run down to Hidden Lake and then a full descent of Bavarian. Great skiing - fun to be in the trees for a bit. So much alpine skiing this trip which is great for the views but tree skiing still has that little bit of extra challenge which is fun. Climbed back up to the lodge and finished with a nice steep line down Oasis. Felt really good on the last climb home - such a big difference to be on lighter skis today.

All in all our biggest week of ski touring at a lodge ever. We scored with the weather and stability and got to ski runs that rarely get skied. We were guided this trip which was OK - pace was a little slower than I would have liked but I think this helped the slower members of the group ski all day (and we skied our biggest week ever although we were usually out dawn to dusk). I still prefer to go self guided however to to get to this lodge without a guide is hard. This lodge has really amazing alpine terrain so I was glad everyone else got to experience it as well (I had been here three times before).

Album link for the pics from the trip is below. Too many good ones to just pick a few to post here...

Backcountry skiing 5:00:00 [2] +2250m

Weather changed this morning although the clouds moved in and out all day so not terrible weather. Skied a couple runs in East Campion Bowl. Great snow - probably best so far although the light was flat so hard to ski super aggressively. The terrain there is great. Climbed up Runway 49 which was a burly climb. Again nice to be there with good stability. The descent was a bit tough with the poor light. Clouds cleared as we climbed back home and had a nice run down Phantom Col to finish the day. Tough work carrying the heavy tele gear around.

Another great day. Climb up to Primrose and another run into the MacDougall drainage - F & F this time. Such amazing terrain - steep 1000m fall line runs. Big country though - nice that the stability is so bomber. We have really lucked out with the weather and conditions on this trip. Rare to ski some of the lines we have skied this week. After climbing back up to Campion we skied Campion bowl again, then Grizzly Peak, and then a steep run down Machiatto. Made it home before dark:) Feeling pretty good at the end of the day after three long days.

Weather is still bluebird - decided to use the tele gear today. A little windier today though and some of the slopes are getting more wind affected. Today we started by climbing up Campion Pk and then skiing Campion Bowl. A little tricky near the top but fast cruising in the lower bowl. Climbed up Solitude and the wind was nasty. Cool climb through crevasses and seracs. Scott (our guide) changed the original plan due to the wind and we dropped down Babes instead. The snow there was tinkly and smooth. Tons of surface hoar in that drainage. Skied the upper part of Redneck until there was too much sun crust and a short run off the shoulder of Prudence. Stuck it out to the end and it was worth it as we finished with Espresso - a 400 vertical meter fall line 35-40 degree slope.

Great day of skiing today. Started with a run down Wolverine which was a bit variable but nice and steep. Climbed up Marten - saw some wolverine tracks. Dropped into MacDougall Ck via Gainer. Awesome snow and over 1000m of fall line steep skiing to the valley bottom. Long, hoot climb out but couldn't resist another run down Pink which was just as fun. The second climb out was a lot easier as I could just walk at my own pace.

Backcountry skiing 4:30:00 [2] +1765m

Skied down the lodge run and then Cruiser to the bottom of the Albert Icefall. A bit windy climbing up the side of the icefall however once we got on the ice field the weather was stellar. No clouds and very warm. Felt like April instead of February. Luckily the terrain here has lots of north and east facing terrain. We skied a buttery run off Cowgirl then a nice steep line off Paradise. Back down to the valley bottom via Cowboy and one short extra run on the bottom of Solitude. Some of the glacier runs were getting a little wind affected but still very skiable.
