Skate ski 1:05:00 [2] 12.5 km (5:12 / km) +390m 4:30 / km

Great nighttime ski (by headlamp) with Milo. The nordic trails are kind of open - but haven't run the big groomer yet. Roadway Ramble and BCIT were skier packed and had some pretty shallow spots. My new rock skis have some new scratches making them true rock skis (broke the old ones last year so next oldest pair becomes the rock skis except they were pretty much only one year old). The groomer had been down to BCIT so headed up once I saw that conditions should be better in that direction. The far trails were in quite nice shape - much better than I expected.

Morning swim with the ladies.

Run 1:10:00 [2] 9.0 km (7:47 / km) +340m 6:33 / km

Easy run to the Begbie Falls parking via SOB, Yew R Here, Hemlock Groove and Chair. Ran with Stuart - pace was easy as chatted most of the way. Trail was icy in spots but not much snow and most of the mud was frozen.

Backcountry skiing (Roamr) 2:30:00 [1] 9.0 km (16:40 / km) +810m 11:30 / km

Easy day out with Lia and Zale (work colleagues) at the Gorge. Snow conditions were holding up despite the inversion. Alpine was pretty wind affected (as was solar) but below treeline was fine (though settled). Climbed all the way to the North Queest summit via a new uptrack for me - route didn't feel too exposed - perhaps just the last 50m. Checked out a line I'd been eyeing up and it went. Not the best snow and could use a little more to fill in some holes. It looked like there are at least two narrow ramps skier's right of where we dropped through the cliffband. The slight gully also goes. Second descent was better skiing as no wind affect. Added a short climb at the end which lined us up well for a track free descent to the truck just to the left of the usual tracks.

Run 50:00 [2] 8.0 km (6:15 / km) +15m 6:12 / km
shoes: Icebug Green

Felt like a slow run this morning on the greenbelt trails. I'll blame the snowy footing which must have been slowing me down. Nice to see the sun - too bad it is bringing an inversion with it.

Backcountry skiing (100eight) 3:30:00 [3] 8.0 km (26:15 / km) +1025m 16:00 / km

Another Gorge trip - logging is likely close to being done but with high pressure forecast probably a week or two of skiing left there. This time skiing with Russ and Courtney. Jordan and Anna met us there and joined for the first climb but stayed in the road basin (Anna's first day touring so they didn't want to overdo it). We skied two runs in the 12km basin. Similar lines to last Tuesday but changed up the uptrack location and the exit. First run is better for consistency. Second run could use another meter of snow to smooth things out. Had never skied today's route out - worked pretty well. Could probably drop off the ridge sooner and trend right.

Skate ski 1:00:00 [2] 12.5 km (4:48 / km) +275m 4:19 / km

Had presumed that nordic conditions were not great given the recent weather but reports said decent coverage on the upper trails. I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed being on the skate skis. Definetly conditions where up was easier than down due to the uneven snow and icy sections. Courtney did not enjoy the downhill - I'm more comfortable just going straight and speed checking as necessary. Snow plowing would have been hard.
