Backcountry skiing (Mantra) 2:30:00 [1] 8.0 km (18:45 / km) +825m 12:22 / km

Slackcountry with Courtney. Atsuko was going to join us but she wasn't feeling well. We climbed to Kokanee Peak and had plans to ski down the back but I triggered a SA sz 1 and then a SR sz 1 just off the ridge so pulled the plug and climbed back up. Plan B was a run down Kokanee Bowl which had some good sections but also a lot of west facing terrain which meant a crust below the newer snow.

Skate ski 1:25:00 [2] 17.25 km (4:56 / km) +345m 4:29 / km

Easy ski with Courtney on the lower Silver Star trails. A few trails with fresh grooming and some still to be done (groomed seemed to be out late). Surprisingly cold and slow snow. My right hip is a little tired after the classic day yesterday...

Classic ski 2:40:00 [3] 40.0 km (4:00 / km) +690m 3:41 / km

Great weather today - sunny, cool and nice grooming. I had glide waxed for slightly warmer conditions but I didn't feel like re-waxing. I also used my skin skis as I hate the hassle of waxing though given the colder temperatures waxing might not have been too tricky. A slight speed penalty but I had great grip.

I felt pretty good after yesterday and used the same strategy of going easy for the first half. I was in the first wave today so started at the back letting the fast people take off (I was in the front of the second wave yesterday). I had some back and forth today with a couple skiers who had better glide but worse grip. It was nice to have racers around to keep me motivated. The zumas were fine on classic - the toughest hills are still on the way up Lars Taylor. I herringboned up 4-5 hills, 3 of which were on that section. I thought I finished strong right up until the last hill - almost perfect pacing I guess;) The fast guys were almost the same speed as skate yesterday showing how slow conditions were due to the new snow.

All in all a good weekend... I sign up for these events to give myself a training goal and I'd say I can be satisfied with my buildup for and execution of these races.
