Road Ride 2:00:00 [2] 45.0 km (2:40 / km) +965m 2:25 / km

Low key ride around the rolling hills to the east and north. I still don't have my legs back after last weekend's effort.

Trail Run 1:15:00 [2]

In La Clusaz for work and managed to get a nice little run in amongst the rural trails and roads. Les Aravis is such an epic mountain landscape.

Road Ride 6:44:00 [5] 140.0 km (2:53 / km) +4051m 2:31 / km

I had never been to the Morzine area to the west and north of Chamonix before so I signed up for a cyclosportif race to check it out...on Father's Day. In short, this was bloody hard. I just don't have the base fitness this year but I thought I'd give this a go anyway...and then they changed the racecourse and added a bunch of elevation. Sh!t.

The first 90k felt fine; I climbed well and I got steadily quicker on the descents. Although I passed all of ONE person while descending. It was a very balanced racecourse, having hellish climbs, very twisty descents, and some moderate ups and downs along the way. I would say that this was on par (or even more enjoyable) with Etape du Tour or Maratona des Dolomites as the landscape was incredible, the racecourse wasn't packed with 11,000+ riders, and the weather was perfect.

The last 40k+ was a slog. My speed slowed and I really had to gut out the climbs - 4,000m+ is a LOT in one session. I'm glad I did it and I know what I've got to work on for the rest of the season.

Road Ride 1:15:00 [1]

Brutal luck ride with Leanimal. Grandma was in place to look after the kiddies but Lee's bike broke...twice...I gave her mine while I scootered hers home...and then my seat bolt broke when she adjusted the height. Ride FAIL.

Road Ride 1:45:00 [3] 45.0 km (2:20 / km) +1120m 2:05 / km

What was supposed to be a thunder stormy day turned into something quite a bit more pleasant and sunny. And so goes the variability of living amongst mountains. I climbed Col de la Forclaz, gutting out the last 3k of 10%, 10%, and 11% grades, before heading to Dingy to see Wee's little running race. She was quite a bit more timid this time after the watershoe malfunction of the MaXiRace. However, she was quite happy to get her medal and souvenir once she'd negotiated two laps of a 250m racecourse of little obstacles.

Orienteering 1:26:00 [4]
shoes: Salomon SpikeCross

Local o-session set up by the Annecy club in Score-O format. I cleared it and received a set of shredded legs as a souvenir. There were SO many low lying raspberry-esque bushes all about, whether they were marked with darker green or not. My 'favourite' CP was the ant hill. The CP descriptions are all in French so I often don't check them until I'm close. On this occasion, I saw it a ways away, punched the CP, did a map check and realized that my feet and lower legs were covered in aggressively biting ants. %^&* they hurt and added to the sting of the raspberry scratches. The glory of orienteering!

Road Ride 1:23:00 [3] 32.0 km (2:36 / km) +685m 2:21 / km

Sweet evening ride home from work on quiet side roads (read: still excellently paved) with lots of climbing. Still trying to kick this fatigue feeling I have...our whole family is a little under the weather.

Road Ride 2:15:00 [3] 49.0 km (2:45 / km) +1015m 2:30 / km

Went for what was meant to be a rolling ride to spin the legs a little but I climbed quite a bit as it's difficult to find 'rolling' 'round these parts...

Road Ride 3:45:00 [3] 74.0 km (3:02 / km) +2275m 2:38 / km

First big elevation ride of the season and while I don't have my legs back yet, I don't think it went so bad. Joern and I set of when it wasn't smoking hot just yet and headed for Col de Glieres. It's a challenging climb with a bit of gravel at the top to connect it to the next valley. The descent is likely the steepest paved road around this area...I've got to try to climb it at some point. Col de la Croix Fry was next before a screaming descent into Thones where it was picnic time with all of the kiddies. I've got to find a way to relax more on the high speed switchback descents - I get such a sore neck and shoulders from tensing up so damn much.

Road Ride 1:25:00 [3] 36.0 km (2:22 / km) +705m 2:09 / km

Another gorgeous morning to get a pre-work ride in. I hit Col de Bluffy, Dingy, Naves, and then back over the Fier River. Decent climbing for such a short ride.

Road Ride 1:17:00 [3] 37.0 km (2:05 / km) +340m 1:59 / km

Bright, sunny, and perfect for a 6h00 tour of Lac Annecy. Legs still feeling it from the MaXiRace on the Talloire climb.
