Orienteering 1:17:30 [3] 5.6 km (13:50 / km)
shoes: Brooks

Ultimate-O #1 at Point Defiance. I had a spectacular shuffle-run worked out to compensate for the pencil wound in my left foot [no laughing please]. It was an interesting course; more controls on contour features and fewer trail routes than WIOL courses. Movement was sketchy through the light green, though. But I guess in Seattle courses can be confined mostly to trails, with fast running and minimal navigation, or they can go off-trail, with more interesting navigation, but cross big sections of green. So this was fun & more challenging than usual, if slower.

Orienteering 1:12:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks

Orienteering at St. Edwards w/ Catherine, Max, Drew, & Natalie! Natalie did really well (it was her first time orienteering!), which is awesome. We went through some massive patches of stinging nettle and pretty much fell down some spectacular mud-ravines, though, so hopefully she'll still want to come orienteering with us :-).

My foot hurts really badly. I'm debating logging it as an injury...it's possibly the most ridiculous "injury" I've ever had, but it's one of the more painful ones since it hurts all the time, regardless of whether I'm running or walking on it or not. So....the not-so-heroic story is: last night I was finally done with homework & was walking across my room after setting my alarm....and there were a bunch of colored pencils on the floor from this silly transcription/translation biology project I had to do last week...and one of them was apparently sticking up...and I basically stepped right onto an upright pencil point with all of my weight. OW.

So...I sort of stumbled through orienteering today, & it might be hard to race tomorrow at the classic-o but I'm going to try.
