Race race 7:46:00 [5] 96.0 km (4:51 / km)

Bruce Peninsula race solo this year. I'd like to say this one went according to plan but quite the opposite! Started with paddle and was holding my own up against the toothpick boats but it started getting choppy and for some reason was habving difficulty keeping the boat somewhat straight. Right before the turnaround I lost focus and was in the drink, yikes. Too rough to get back in so waited for rescue boat which helped me dump water out and back on my way. Got around the turn around when again the boat started acting up and I could feel water around me. I then heard someone yelling at me the my bacj end was sinking and in the drink again. No rescue boat in sight so enjoyed some humble pie floating in the bay. At that point I saw Eddie paddling towards the turn around and was wtf? It ended up he dumped as well) : finally got rescued and we figured what was wrong, I had not sealed the rear hatch correctly and I was taking on water without knowing. Such a rookie mistake! I ended up loosing my bladder, jacket, arm warmers, sandels and even one of my knee braces on the dumps, garage sale lol
Finally got going with the reality that I was dead last. Damage done and a bit raddled so just decided to try and catch people and push hard. The rest was a struggle to keep nutrition and food going with heat but nice to see familiar faces throughout the course. Caught up to Mrs gally and Nik who were together which was nice and quick chat with FB on bike wear we almost took out a snake lol. Last run was painful but was cheered up when I ran into Hermes who was very nice to feed me water and keep me going.
Finished to a cheering crowd which was really nice. Tough race but gratifying to finish. Look forward to next year :)
