Race 23:30:00 [4]

WT with Mrs. Gally , Storm and New addition Tom Martin.

I decided to come out of retirement for one last race just to stop the nagging from Mrs. Gally and Storm to do the race :)

Liked the layout of the race however is was heavy on paddling and lots of biking, trekking seemed short.

There were two route choices for the paddle to go north or south. We decided on the shorter distance with more portaging and looking at how things worked out there wasn't much of an advantage on either route. We paddled mostly with RF during this section which made for an enjoyable paddle.

Trek went well for us at the beginning with no issues other then no so optimal route choices. Had some issues with the coasteering as we couldn't decide to coasteer or enter the forest and just bushwack. Seemed like every time we decided to forest it we hit thick bush or swamp. This made for slow going until we relocated on the coast and started moving faster. Hit the lake and then off to the bike. Would have liked to have made better time in the trek but we ended up close to the lead pack and Salomon just behind us which kept us motivated.

Bike came as advertised - long and Sh$%y! I knew we weren't as fast at lead teams so we needed to come up with routes that may gain us time. On one section we decided to gamble and do a 16KM loop on roads instead of 8km crappy trail but as we got to the road Mrs. Gally asked "is this 69?" I stopped and asked why who cares! And then she brought up the important note that 69 was off limits and you would be DQd We weren't sure so we decided to return and do the shitty trail damn! From what I see after race it looks like it was part of the old 69 but some of the other teams did go on it. I should have clarified with Bob before to race which would have saved us lots of time.

The rest of bike was pure misery going 5km/hr on snowmobile trails and swamps and finally glad to get to the last road section to the finish line . Bob wanted to add a little more pain to the end so he had us bike right by the start and my nice truck waiting for me go to hotel!

Overall solid race for the team and couldn't do much more to improve our placing. Storm and Tom were great and Mrs. Gally was strong as usual. Great to race with the other teams and look forward to next year's WT... as a volunteer
