Terrain (Park) 20:00 [2]
weight:167lbs

Warmup - not that it wasn't warm enough already.

Orienteering race (Park) 12:01 [5] *** 1.9 km (6:19 / km) +60m 5:28 / km

Carol's Team sprint#1. Had a pretty good run going through #9 and then things went horribly wrong. I bobbled 9 (just a few seconds lost), and then proceeded directly to 11. I didn't realize the mistake until I punched 12. Went back and got 10, but then decided to go straight in and take the MSP (going back to 10 added a minute, so there wasn't much hope anyway). Rob Wagnon posted a solid 11:37 to take the win. Not sure how he manages to go that fast on the amount of training he does.

Putting out the controls for the second sprint. Not sure why it took that long, but I'm guessing the heat was getting to me more than I realized. When I got home I weighed, wait for it..., 160.2. Almost made me want to go for a short run just for the amusement value of seeing a weight in the 150's.

Warmed up by jogging around checking the map for tomorrow. One area was wrong, so I ran back to the car and got a pen to make some notes.

Test running the relay sprint course at Carondelet (1:5) for tomorrow. Not quite race effort, but close. Winning time won't be much faster (and may well be slower as people often make some pretty crazy mistakes in mass start events).

Wanted to do a short run this evening, but Mama-O didn't get back from her book club meeting until 11PM. By then I was ready for bed and figured a day off was probably fine given that I'm racing the sprint on Thursday and running a 5K this weekend.

Cycling (Road) 42:00 [2]

Easy spin under increasingly threatening skies. Then they decided to stop threatening and start following through. As the flood plain is not the best place to be riding during a thunderstorm, I cut things a bit short.

Mapping (Park) 2:55:00 [1]
weight:171lbs

Pretty much finished up the fieldwork for the Carondelete map. Left a small section on the very western edge unchecked, but I don't think Rick can get his courses over that far anyway (and there's not much there of interest). I'll check it next week if I get a chance, but it's not a priority.

Terrain (Mix) 1:34:00 [2]

Power line to CC Lake and back. Waited until 6:30PM to go out, but it was still pretty hot. Not too humid and after about 20 minutes it felt OK.

Somewhere along the way, it occured to me that I was hitting a lot of different surfaces, so I decided to see how many I could include on a single run. Here's how it shook out:

Grass - about half the run.
Gravel path - about a third of the run.
Asphalt - 1/2 mile.
Concrete - 1/4 mile.
Dirt trail - 1/4 mile.
Forest floor - 200m.
Synthetic track - 200m.
Bricks - 50m.
Steel deck bridge - 30m.
Wooden bridge - 15m.
Sand (beach volleyball court) - 10m.
Rock (solid) - 10m.
Rock (loose) - over one big gravel pile.
Logs - 5m.
Manhole cover - 4 steps.
Fire hydrant - 1 step.

Sixteen seems like a good benchmark to start from.

Yes, you read that right. A new record on the G. Won't stay there for long because we're celebrating Father's Day early and hitting both the wineries and Dewey's.

Mapping (Park) 48:00 [1] ***
weight:169lbs

Finished up the technical portion of Carondelet at lunchtime. The rest should go pretty quickly tomorrow morning.

Met Rick Armstrong there who was out scoping his sprint course using the old map. We talked a bit about the mapping standard I'm using for vegetation. He seemed glad that the vegetation is being updated.

Cycling (Road) 1:17:00 [4]

4x500@35 (flying start) 3:30R in the 100" gear. Time includes warmup/down and about 10 minutes of moderate tempo.

Wanted to see if I could still turn a big gear at this G value (when I got this low 15 years ago, I had trouble with that). As today was a rare day with no wind, it was a good opportunity to get some hard data. Seems I'm still OK, although I'd rather see these a second or two faster. Probably could have done that on the TT bike, but I was too lazy to haul it up from the basement.
