Orienteering race (Relays) 29:16 [5] *** 4.2 km (6:58 / km) +160m 5:51 / km
spiked:9/11c shoes: VJ's

Having got to the start on time and even with a bit of a warm up - things were looking up.
Followed the elephant tracks to 1, then 2, damn wrong 2, corrected then got back to following the tracks which in turn led me to the wrong 5 - didn't they know where I was going, corrected again then back on track. Unfortunately the snow hit just after 5 and the tracks were covered up, so had to navigate all by myself. The rest of the course went well, but I didn't have anything extra in my legs to really push it.
When I got back found out my shoes had just run their last race. I also noted that they are not VJ's as I had have registered them here, but actually Jalas.Still too late now to change that.

Running warm up/down 5:00 [3] 0.8 km (6:15 / km)
shoes: VJ's

Thought start time was 11:38, it was actually 11:18 - once again I was late

Orienteering race 1:36:30 [5] *** 12.7 km (7:36 / km) +530m 6:17 / km
spiked:21/23c shoes: VJ's

Have the time down as 96 mins, because that is what the results say, but actually only ran for 92 mins, this is because I am a fool and missed my start by 4 mins.
Race went ok until running into the OOB about 500m into the course on the way to no 3 and navigating to 10 not 6 and then running out of energy with 3-4km to go. All in all not the best day. I didn't realise at the time, but it went wrong from the night before when I decided what time we needed to be up in order to get to the event on time, with a large enough breakfast etc. As it turns out I had a hot cross bun and a cup of tea in preparation for a late start and a very long run.

Orienteering race 1:24:42 [5] 11.8 km (7:11 / km) +405m 6:08 / km
spiked:23/29c shoes: VJ's

Having run the 2.8km to the start in order to get there on time I arrived with approximately 30sec before I was called up - not ideal - especially as I hadn't even taped my laces, but what else are you going to do in the 4 mins call up. Anyhow, race went ok, with a few mistakes, one was reading the wrong number on the control descriptions - fool - the others were navigational. Unfortunately lost confidence a bit after the control description incident so started to hesitate a lot more and other mistakes crept in. Once out of the complex part started to pick up again. On the whole not happy or disapointed with the run.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3] 2.8 km (7:09 / km)
shoes: VJ's

Run to the start - once again working on stampy time so no time for streching before the race.

Event: JK 2008

Orienteering race (Sprint) 18:09 [5] 2.6 km (6:59 / km)
shoes: Asics

First time ever on a sprint course. Great fun, but a lot to learn about it - mainly, don't think you have found the short route - you haven't, it's a dead end! I didn't know what to expect really, but found the map really hard to read, the scale confusing, got caught out on the descriptions and made a couple of mistakes as well. Good first lesson! It felt like 18 mins of panic and fear wrapped up in a cross country race. Looking forward to the next one.
