Note

Total eclipse.... WOW. Definitely worth sticking around to see. Thanks to the organizers and farm owners who made this possible. A super great weekend all around, and did not even hit much of the predicted traffic on the way home (a little slow around Columbus, but it was also rush hour.) Got back to my house just after Midnight.

Flying Pig XXVI - Masters Nationals Day 2 - Hueston Woods East - Green A (F40+)

A trifecta of decent orienteering days! Also the weather was pretty perfect too. Less opportunity to rely on trails today, and more climb, but it didn't really feel that bad. Woods were somewhat nicer too, not as thick. 1 was close to start and easy, 2 I could see while still across the stream coming down the other hill. 3 I aimed right and then went along the bottom of the hill by the stream. 4, entered woods at trail bend after pretty much the only boulder seen all weekend, but got drawn to the right by people before going back to the control. Just before 6, ended up with Sydney and Dasha M and was near them the rest of the time. I didn't see the control where I thought it should be, looked to the left with the other 2, found the pit, so back to the ditch where this time I saw the bag. No troubles with 7 and 8. At 9 there were a TON of people going in and out of the control which made it even more simple.

Third on Friday, and both classics, and third overall for Masters Nationals

Kathy and I went back to Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park (where there was a race in 2018) to actually look at the art. We only had 2 hours until they closed, and decided to walk not realizing you could drive and park in different areas. Made it around to everything, pulling out right at close. Did remember a lot of the area from the previous event.

Flying Pig XXVI - Masters Nationals Day 1 - Hueston Woods North - Green A (F40+)

Another decent day, not as good as Friday though. Picked my way from trail to trail okay to #1, then got slightly confused on my way out to the road to head to 2 but corrected after not too long. Took the long road route from 2 to 3, coming into 3 from the east, passing a guy who was in full bee suit working at his beehives. Had a nice trip and fall/fly through the air on the way down the spur to 4. I used trails as much as possible for the rest of the course, only having a little confusion between 10 and 11 (go control) in the trail spaghetti.

Flying Pig XXVI - Camp Friedlander Middle - Green A (F40+)

A good first outing for the weekend. This course was a lot of fun! Very muddy though. Pretty much immediately had to slide down on my butt into #1 (also there was a guy sitting down there seemingly just chilling). Mostly took routes around to avoid climb and green, except went straight down the hill from 10 to 11. No problems with any controls, and enjoyed the area. I believe this camp was site of the sprint day on my very first Flying Pig.
