Running 2:55:00 [3] 21.8 km (8:02 / km)

Half-marathon at Trail Marathon weekend in Michigan. This is one of my favourite races of the year and usually the season kick-off. I haven't been running as much as I would like to have been lately because my achilles has been giving me grief, so I didn't have high expectations for this race. I was pleasantly surprised that both my mind and body cooperated reasonably well. It was a beautiful day and great temperature for running. Things got real tired around 17-18 km, but that's to be expected!

Simpy came down for this as well and crushed the half. He also won a "top spectator" award during the Saturday evening beer mile, which was a blast.

Trekking/Hiking 3:50:00 [3]

My achilles has been grumpy the past couple of weeks and with a race coming up next weekend, I am trying to baby it a bit, so I opted for a hike rather than a run to finish off the Niagara section of the Bruce Trail. I got a new backpacking pack this winter so loaded it up with all my gear as I hope to get out for a short trip in a couple of weeks. It was my first excursion with the pack and I loved it!

What I did not love today was all of the slippery rocks and mud from several days of rain. It may have been the first time I didn't mind the road sections as they gave me a bit of reprieve from having to consider where I put each foot!

It was misty and moody and I only saw one other person on the trail.

Climbing 30:00 [3]

Last night of my climbing class. Now that the weather is nicer, I don't think I'll go as often, but it's certainly something I'd like continue on bad weather days or pick up again next winter.

Running 45:00 [3]

Met up with Browner and Kelly for a run-bike workout at HAFTA. Browner led us on a nice run loop to start.

Cycling 1:15:00 [3]

Then we switched to bikes for a doubletrack / road route that Browner had plotted out. The doubletrack was super fun and we couldn't have asked for a better day for it! Once we hit the roads, we faced a nasty headwind and riding into it on my softtail, I hated life for awhile.

But then we got back to the parking lot where Earl was waiting with some nice cold All Day IPAs and some chips, and then I stopped hating life.

Super fun way to make the most of a beautiful day!

Climbing 30:00 [3]

Really pleased with how my confidence has come along in this class! Each week I try things I wouldn't have the week before. Tonight's accomplishment was a bouldering route that requires you to climb up and over a ledge and down the other side. Two weeks ago it freaked me out and tonight it seemed like no big deal. I also feel much more comfortable on the wall itself, and am not in such a hurry to just get to the top but can think about which holds to use and foot and hand placement. Very satisfying!

Climbing 30:00 [3]

Tonight I learned the difference between hopping, matching, and foot switching when you need to move from one foot to another on a small hold in order to be able to reach up to the next hold. We practiced on a few different bouldering routes, including two where you had to rock down and back and blast off! to reach the next hold. I thought it was cool as it was something I'd never have the guts to try on my own. Felt like I learned a lot tonight!
