Trekking/Hiking 52:51 [3]

A much cloudier day today, but brighter than we thought it was going to be. Heather and I set off to explore some areas we had never been, starting with St. Johnsbury. Our first hike was at the St. Johnsbury town forest, where I did my largest amount of elevation gain post-jury (around 300m).

Trekking/Hiking 36:11 [3]

One of our next stops was to Dog Mountain, which Heather really wanted to see: https://www.dogmt.com/Dog-Mountain.html

We spent some time reading the dog tributes in the chapel, wandered around the gallery, then set off for another hike. We split up this time, as Dog Mountain is on, well the side of the mountain, and I was nervous about the muddy downhills, so I did a lower route while Heather did a higher one. I was pleased with my decision as the sun coming out and warmer temps meant for some really slippery footing.

This was a really neat place - I love seeing people devote their time and energy to things that others may not understand, but in the case of Dog Mountain, it definitely seems like Hueck's efforts are being appreciated!

Trekking/Hiking 1:15:00 [3]

Our first full day in Vermont was a simply stunning one! The forecast was for mild temps (around 8) and blue skies all day. Our afternoon plan was lunch at Parker Pie and a visit to Hill Farmstead, so we decided to adventure from the Wildflower in the morning. While all of the Kingdom Trails were closed, the Wildflower has its own trail system that was open. We got out early enough that the ground was still quite firm. It was a lovely start to a day that only got better and better!

Note

Heather and I hit the road early to go to East Burke, where we had optimistically signed up for Winterbike in January. The organizers held out hope until a week before the event, and then cancelled it on the Friday before we left because of lack of snow, and well, ay winter conditions. Our accommodations at the Wildflower were non-refundable, and we both love a long weekend in Vermont, so we went anyways, confident that we would find adventures and fun times regardless of the trail conditions!

Our early start (I picked Heather up at 6:00) meant we were in East Burke in time for happy hour. After picking up some supplies at the village market, we hiked up to Heaven's Bench with beers in hand to toast the start of a fun weekend!
