Orienteering race (Metro Series) 31:50 [3] * 6.11 km (5:13 / km)
ahr:166 max:175
Turned up feeling a little under the weather but just hoping to get in a solid run and not make any big mistakes for my first Metro.
After a bit of a muddled start I started towards #13 but after a quick scan of the map I thought I could skip it and go straight to #6. Twice in the early stages I miscounted controls and had to rethink my route, however after picking up #23 I accepted that I had to run around the lake (I didn't need to) and continued without any further complications. Knowing I would struggle with the running I walked the last few meters into most controls and had a small walk up to #24. Afterwards I realized I probably could have cut about 1km off my run if I was paying attention and counting properly, and plenty of precious seconds to be saved not fiddling about at each control due to checking #'s and not holding the control card so it's ready to punch.
Overall happy with the result, No problems with the calf (wearing old shoes again), No problem with Nav, never unsure where I was just what I was doing.
Looking forward to next week at Kings Park.
Not sure if the official time was 31:15 or 31:50 so I'll take the quicker one until told otherwise. (stopped watch a bit late so that is slower still, definitely won't be taking that one)
Just checked results, 31:50.
