Adventure race race 5:08:00 [4] 62.0 km (4:58 / km)
shoes: Avanti

I've been struggling to find the time to write up about Sunday. I'll just put down a few points as we did everything everyone else did, some just a little longer :-( .

On the plus side we worked well together and nailed most of the challenges to be moving along nicely up to around half way.
I think we were a bit unlucky with some of the CP's that needed a bit of searching for as we were quite often the first there and always found teams turning up just as it was found allowing them to make up some time. Some I'm sure we could have done better but others such as the CP under the wrong bridge were frustrating. As was the orienteering leg, but we will share the blame 50/50 with the poor directions for that leg.
I got a bit upset at the marshal at the eating CP when she told me the wheat bix was her idea, they were going to have giant snakes.

We learnt quite a bit from this event, including some tips picked up from watching some of the faster teams operate.
A great job from both Joel and Jacko who were both a pleasure to race with. I think it would take an admission to hospital to stop Jacko from racing (Cass was up at 5:30 Sunday morning telling him she would race in his place after a less than restful night),

Bring on next year.

Event: Rat Race

Adventure race race (Rat Race: Mean Streets) 2:55:00 [3] 20.12 km (8:42 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline GTS

This was a fun event and I had a great time with Jacko and Joel, we didn't pay enough attention to the closing times for the city controls and probably should have looked more closely at the point values. Other than that we worked together well and didn't have any problems with any of the activities or finding controls.
Starting off straight to London court and we hoisted Joel straight up to get the CP over the gate. On to Council house where other teams were also searching the fountain, I spotted it first and yelled out to Joel, gaining some unwanted attention from other teams. After that we headed up for the pizza challenge which we got through pretty quick and got to keep tasting it for a while after for added value (without the added points). We then headed east for the Perth mint and Queens gardens then up to Claisebrook inlet for the paddle challenge. Over the causeway for the statue then the water crossing on tubes, Bowling (nice one Jacko) then footy kicking (shocker Jacko). At this stage we had realised we were in a bad place time wise being too late for some city CP's but too early for the Rat at the Bell tower so we walked to the Bell tower and had a short wait for the Rat. Jacko spotted the rat first and they both froze assessing each other. The Rat took off with Jacko chasing him down and catching him allowing us and many other teams to get the points.
Over to the carpark at the convention center then over the Narrows to the South Perth Jetty CP back and up Jacobs ladder (first time my legs really complained) then down to the Munster lane CP. From Munster lane we had about 6 or 7 minutes to get to the Library for the Parkour and made it just in time.
To quote Juffy who's team did this CP first
"Glad we did this first, it would have hurt badly later in the night."
You are a wise man Juffy, we had about run just under 20 km at this stage and the legs were shaking a bit on the handrail walking. It was great fun and we managed to do all the moves without injuring ourselves ( I even got a compliment from one of the instructors but I can't recalled what he called the move, I would have called it a jump)
A quick dash for the pump class to use up all that spare energy we had left over, and the CP under the car (they can pay me if they want me to name it) and we were all done.

I was quite surprised with the distance we covered and very happy with how the legs felt as we managed to run most of it at around the 5-5:30m/km pace.
Overall our planning mistakes cost us a few points, we probably could have done the city shops CP's first and still fitted everything else in but we had fun and plenty of laughs along the way.

Note

No commute home today. I felt some pain in my right knee (ITB) last night so I decided not to ride today. Saturday and yesterday were probably a little too much, not exactly easing back into it. I thought about playing with the seat hight and still riding but with the Rat race this weekend it is better to be safe than sorry.

Ride (Commute) 1:34:59 [3] 42.02 km (26.5 kph)
ahr:138 max:154 shoes: Giant OCR3

I have finally joined the commuters club.
Started off having to ride through 250m of sprinklers spraying the road and path but not much grass.
It didn't take long for my legs to say "WTF, we thought we made it pretty clear last time. We're not playing"... Stupid legs, they'll learn soon enough.
Pretty quiet for the first hour, just a suicidal rabbit at the start of the freeway choosing between my bike on the path or a freeway full of cars...
Once near Osborne park the commuter traffic picked up and the legs started to wake up a bit as well.
Felt ok considering it's my 2nd ride for the year, the plan is to leave the bike at work and ride home tomorrow.
