Ride 34:42 [3] 10.34 km (17.9 kph) +271m
ahr:136 max:159 shoes: Giant OCR3

Ride with Jacko and Red Ranga Liz from Helena Valley pharmacy up to the O event via the Zig Zag.

Orienteering race 1:10:00 [3] 8.0 km (8:45 / km) +214m 7:43 / km
ahr:144 max:170 shoes: Teva evolution

My 1st bush O event went pretty much the same way as my 1st ever Nav Dash, A major stuff up but plenty of lessons to take away.
Basically I over ran almost every leg, not getting a grasp on the scale of the map at all. I also made the mistake of running to find the next feature rather than always picking features I could see along the way. I tried to take a short cut between tracks but after not being able to go straight through where I intended I was left disorientated when I finally made it through to the other track not sure if I was above or below the point I was hoping to hit.
While looking for #6 somebody asked if I was looking for the same control as the and I said yes. They then told me it wasn't in the area they had just come from so I believed them and turned to look elsewhere, eventually making my way back to find it no more than 10m from where we were. Not sure if they didn't see it or where being pricks but I should have ignored them anyway.
After looking at my watch with a few still to go I decided to run in as the planned ride afterwards was looking like a non event at this stage so I thought maybe we could improvise a shorter ride.
When I got back I had just missed Jacko who had gone out again to learn how to navigate like a ninja from Tooms.

Ride 19:56 [3] 10.05 km (30.3 kph)
ahr:130 max:148 shoes: Giant OCR3

A very uneventful and safe ride back to the car via the Zig Zag again.

Windtrainer 40:00 [3]
shoes: Giant OCR3

Did this later than I was hoping to and as I think I will need my legs tomorrow, I decided not to do the planned intervals but just an informal fartlek type session.
I need to get my bike serviced, or at least have a fiddle to get the gears changing a bit easier.

Note

I got a call from Jacko on my way home from work telling me he was bailing on our planned trail run tonight due to a tickle in his throat.
That put me in a bit of dilemma.
I can't really tell him to toughen up instead of hiding under his blanky unless I go out for a run myself, however as he was bailing, the temperature was dropping, the light was fading, the wind was picking up and the rain was coming down. So it would seem a bit childish to go out for a run just in order to ask Jacko if he was comfy under his blanky.
The wise thing to do would be to a windtrainer session instead...

Run (Trail run) 38:10 [3] 6.61 km (5:46 / km) +48m 5:34 / km
ahr:150 max:174 shoes: Teva evolution

Ok, I got soaked, it was windy, dark and cold.
I managed to finish in the fading light so I didn't need to take my lights.
Almost finished flat on my face near the finish when I tripped over a rock.
But it was worth it because now I can say...
Man up Jacko, hope you were nice and warm under your BLANKY.

Note

Hmmm,
not quite as satisfying as I was hoping it would be.
He probably was pretty comfy and warm staying at home under his blanky.
Actually I'm quite jealous as I can't seem to find my blanky now and I'm cold and hungry.

Swim 30:00 [3] 1.3 km (23:05 / km)

First swim for ages, felt horrible to start with but got into some sort of rhythm after a few hundred meters.
All freestyle but in the 25m pool which made things easier.
Distance an estimate as I lost count, was concentrating more on technique than worrying about counting laps.

Note

Was planning to do something this afternoon but spent the afternoon and most of the evening at PMH as Chloe had some eye problems (stinging and double vision). All tests were normal and she seems to feel a bit better now.
Drains all motivation for doing any training though.

cross trainer 40:00 [3]
shoes: Keen Ridgeline

Cross trainer session in place of a run tonight as I didn't want to risk aggravating the calves.
Followed by plenty of stretching and foam roller.
