Kep recon run from Wundowie to Pechey Rd car park.
A group of about 24 today, most finishing at Mt Helena but a few continuing on to Pechey Rd.
Started with a group of about 6 including Juffy & as the pace was comfortable and my HR was only just over what I had planned to run at I decided to keep going and drop back off the pace if it picked up too much. Luckily everyone was feeling social and we stayed as a group until I told Juffy at around 15k that I was going to back off a bit as my HR had crept up a little more than what I would have liked. He was happy to back off as well and the rest of the group slowly pulled away. This run is deceptive as I was thinking it was mostly flat until Mt Helena then a gradual downhill but from 5k to about 20k was a gradual climb.
Juffy was starting to have some hip flexor pain at around the 21k mark so we had a short walk break then again at around 24k where he told me to carry on without him.
At Mt Helena I managed to fill my hydration pack with some nice colf water from the pub and had a short break. Juffy was finishing here & I continued on still feeling pretty fresh but the humidity was starting to get to me.
After about 30k I started to have more frequent walking breaks mainly due to the heat but the legs still felt ok.
That all changed for the last 10k when my legs started to hurt. No cramping but just sore and tired and I took any opportunity to cool down whenever I spotted a tap or drinking fountain. The last section through JFNP sucked just as much as last time I finished a long run through there.
Finally after finishing at Pechey Rd I walked down to my car at Juffy's place and the legs entered a whole new world of hurt.
Juffy and Sara where kind enough to offer me a nice cool water and although I had been running all morning I decided to help them with fixing up the house by polishing the floor for them.
After refuelling and a shower my legs started to feel better although my right calf was twitching so much I could have flipped a coin off it.
I'm not sure why this run hurt so much more than expected. Maybe I'm still not 100% after feeling sick most of the week or maybe it was the humidity but it's done now so all is good & I'm sure next time will be better.

(watch was stopped at Mt Helena and when refilling water a few times)
