Oof. What a day.
QOC "Royal Romp," day 1 on Oak Ridge portion of Prince William Forest NP in VA.
Windy morning, but not too cold, especially once I got started; low 40s, with sun. It warmed up to 48 by the time we left but still cool with the breeze.
Brown Y course (women's course at this event) was nominally 4.0 km, 110m climb, but I suspect someone counted some form lines as contours...the gaps in the form lines do not stand out very well. I might have been happier without them except where needed to define reentrants between the actual contour lines.
I was fine through the first three controls, but the subtleness of the terrain and downfall to get around tended to get me off course. My other spike was #6, a short leg.
Lost confidence on the way to 4, on the way to 5 (hadn't gone far enough), and missed completely to 8, relocating on control 106, the only mapped boulder on that part of the map (NW of my #2). Didn't read the map well to #7 either. Ugh.
First for the day in F70 is Linda Kohn at just under 70 minutes. Judy Karpinski navigated well, 78+ minutes; then me, Janet F, and Sue H-T. Tomorrow is another day.

Great to see the kids again after weeks away! But I had time to escape this morning, and planned a longer walk to take care of some hilly areas. Completed 15, progressed 6 streets in West Orange. Upper 40s or near 50...didn't need my heavier gloves.
