Note

L eye is no longer painful, but vision is a bit cloudy. Checked with a doctor and it sounds like everything is fine and the cloudiness is a normal part of inflammation after an injury.

I had birch twigs stuck in my eye twice during the race and I stopped for 20-30 seconds each time to make sure everything was fine. The first time I struggled to see out of my eye for about 5 minutes after, but then it got better.

After the race I didn't have any discomfort, but it got bad on the drive home. Had to stop several times to wash out my eye, which provided some temporary relief.

But yeah, today it's feeling better. I'll likely take today off because physical exertion feels a bit weird at the moment.

82/90 - Royally romped

And this one was not a good follow-up to the day before.

I have no idea why, but I couldn't fall asleep and ultimately only slept around 3.5hrs. On the warmup my legs felt heavy and dragged at 3:40/km, whereas the day before at 3:/20km I felt springy and light.

Regardless, I wanted to go out and enjoy the course and the forest, and I did. And honestly I'm surprised I ran as well as I did, particularly considering the eye trouble I'm experiencing while writing this.

It wasn't the second day I wanted since I know that physically there is much, much more in the tank. But what does it matter? It's just one race of many and it was a good training session.

Very stoked to have Joe and Danny there to be competitive with. It's so much more fun to feel that pressure.

And a big shout-out to Grace for doing blue each day and doing quite well despite not orienteering for a little while. Interacting with runners from different teams is so valuable and it'd be nice to do it more often in the US.

L eye hurts quite a bit. It seemed like I was having an allergic reaction to something this morning and then I got birch sticks in it twice during the race. Quite a day.

Really happy with ths one. I was moving at a good pace, but it felt slow. Physically I felt capable of running much faster, but my technical speed didn't feel ready to go faster, particularly in the very vague areas.

It was also different to run in such a flat area without rocks. A good way to start off the spring season for real.

77/90 - Printer seems kaput

Can't get the rollers to work again. Luckily it looks like I can get the same model for cheap on eBay.

Just running old courses or printing maps at print shops until I can replace it.

76/90 - Legs felt like they were rockets

Coming down to the end of night-o season. So I have to take advantage of it. I felt really strong during this. The pace was pretty similar to my race efforts here, but I was running easy. I finally felt smooth in this terrain, and that's saying something with how rocky it is.

Pretty excited for this weekend.
