Driving range 1:00:00 [1]

After 10 days layoff, back to the range to warm up for tomorrow. I think I'll take a train out to the suburbs to a new course.

Running race 42:40 [5] 4.0 mi (10:40 / mi) +20m 10:30 / mi

Elmhurst 4 on the Fourth. With Sari, Soupie, and Maricel...our club's top orienteer. Good race. Took two els out to Cumberland where Soupie picked us up and showed us a pic of his new dog...a chihuahua of all things! After the race we all had coffee at Starbucks and Sari and I caught the train back into town, packed with fat suburbanites coming into the City for Taste of Chicago, Chicago's annual Gorgefest. Taste...my ass!

Despite being sick all week, and still a bit feverish, I think I set a post-65 PR. With my testosterone now up to 136 (241-827) I'm burning up the track! And my weight is below 200, down 20 lbs in the past 3 months....Bring it!

City biking 45:00 [1] 9.0 mi (5:00 / mi)

Biking around, doing errands. Still feverish and weak despite ten hours of sleep. Can't explain this flu....

City biking 20:00 [2] 4.0 mi (5:00 / mi)
slept:10.0

May have overdone it up in Crystal Lake. Although my 58 mile ride back yesterday was fast and fun, I proceeded to become more and more feverish and exhausted after I arrived home. Good thing we returned early; it has been raining off and on ever since then. Now I'm hoping I feel better before Saturday's July 4th race with Soupie and Sari.

Running 58:42 [4] 4.9 mi (11:59 / mi) +60m 11:32 / mi

Crystal Lake, IL. With Sari at 7am on the Bike Path. Felt surprisingly good after all the biking, running, eating and drinking yesterday. At this point, today was supposed to be an "off" day of rest up in Crystal Lake...bike out to riverfront restaurants and have a series of beers and lunches, watching boats go and come on the Fox River. But the 7am sunny day quickly deteriorated to a chilly windy overcast day and we decided to pack it in and head 60 miles back to the City.

Biking-Road 4:09:00 intensity: (2:00:00 @3) + (2:09:00 @4) 58.19 mi (4:17 / mi) +155m 4:15 / mi

Crystal Lake to Chicago. With Sari for 30 miles, then put her on a bus at Woodfield Mall and I biked another 28 miles through the near suburbs and city streets as fast as I could. Just about bought it trying to stretch a yellow light at one intersection...fortunately my brakes worked adequately and I stayed off the hood of oncoming traffic. Got home 30 minutes before Sari and her bike.

Biking-Road 5:53:00 [3] 75.0 mi (4:42 / mi)

Chicago to Crystal Lake, IL. Our annual overnight bike trip. First day is mostly on bike trails -- Illinois Prairie Path to the Fox Rive Path to within 2 blocks of our motel in Crystal Lake. We'd thought about staying a second night, biking around Lake and McHenry counties.

Rich Gaylord, ex-CAOC Mapping Director, met us at our lunch stop and rode with us up to East Dundee. Great to see him again.

After the bike ride, my tradition is to go out for a run, to log a "brick" for the day. And this year was no exception. Although I really didn't feel like it initially, I thought of PG's training and it motivated me to get out there myself. Once on the bike path, running south through to fragrance of the restored prairie with all of its blooming flowers and rich smells, I really felt transformed. A wonderful run.
