University Park GC. A very balmy morning compared with yesterday...no frost hold, so people could tee off early. I took the 7:50am train down from Millennium Park and teed off before 9. Apparently the first one out, since the flags were all resting on their greens. Didn't shoot as well as last year. But i attribute that to the stiff southerly blowing all day, the very wet conditions - kind of like hitting off a block of chocolate pudding, and the severe angle to the bright sun even at noon.

Bloomingdale GC, Carol Stream. Out early; very cold and windy. But winter is coming, and I want to get in as much golf as I can before the Ice Age returns.

Front nine was very cold, stiff and unenjoyable. But sun came out on back nine and I started to make some nice shots. Long suburban bus rides to/from the train, then over a mile hike to the course...all very pleasant and relaxing.

Sunset Valley GC, Highland Park. The weather radar had small rainstorms in the area. But the weather forecaster on Ch5 last night spoke of the strong southerlies bringing early rain only to the south part of the area. So I ignored the radar and took the el down to NW terminal for a train out to the north suburbs. And then walked to the course. When you're walking far from home, you've got to be careful about being caught in the rain...it can get pretty miserable.

Typical of the Lakefront suburbs, Sunset Valley was completely deserted but very clean...none of the banks of fallen leaves we'd had to contend with yesterday in Bensenville. Don't know how they do it.

So I never lost a ball in the leaves. And consequently hit with confidence, and unexpectedly drove several greens, in this, my third day in a row of fall golf. I've got to remember the synergistic pleasure of playing daily...
