Ravenswood 5k, Chicago. Nice sunny day, after a snowy night. Temps around freezing. So was overdressed at the start of the race. Stopped after a couple blocks and peeled off jacket and sweater, which I needed taking the L train to the race.

Actually got a little lump in my throat during the singing of the Star Spangled Banner; such a beautiful, fresh morning, with a couple thousand Chicago runners, standing on a residential street lined with Victorian frame houses, pausing to sing praises to our country....a sudden emotional moment. Trump would have been proud!

Woodruff GC, Joliet. Warm, breezy day. Long commute on the Rock Island RR plus bus in downtown Joliet. Course was in great condition, even if rough areas were unmowed. Clubhouse placed on top of hill with fairways sloping down in all directions, and a deep, rocky stream running back and forth, around the hill in the adjacent valleys.

Water in play on 12 of the 18 holes. And I just can't hit over water! FOUR water balls during the round! This is something that is tough to practice. I just have to stay loose, ignore the water; and hit a nice high 120yd iron shot over the water, to bounce on the green...as I would with any simple approach shot.
