Orienteering 1:24:00 [3] 5.52 km (15:13 / km) +176m 13:07 / km

Day 3 - Long Course at US Nationals. Sagehen.

This was brutal. I feel like I've sparred a few rounds. Two huge mistakes that included a lot of wandering at #4 and #5. At #5, I was perilously balanced at the top of a very steep field of scree, with manzanita all around me and cliffs uphill from me. And the entire hillside was covered with orienteers looking for the control.

I was sure I was out of it, but I told myself you never know how the others are doing, so just keep going. I was never so happy to finish an orienteering course. And I'm glad I kept going because I snagged first place by just under a minute.

Day 2 - Middle at the US Champs. Little Truckee Summit.

No big mistakes, just slow. The navigation wasn't too difficult, but I lost time in the rocks at the end. Too much hesitation.

I didn't notice any smoke at all; it was just hot.

US Nationals. Sprint at Sierra College.

This went as expected. I didn't have too much trouble with the navigation, although I hesitated in too many places. It was a weird feeling going through the start process (it was a premier setup!) and then starting. I had a rush of panic, like I didn't know what to do! Good thing you could see the first control from the start...I said just go to that control, and then muscle memory kicked in and it was fine.

Strength Training 30:00 [3]

Raked, shoveled, and moved 10 wheelbarrow-loads of rock to clear the new location for the shed. I think my biceps are going to hurt tomorrow.
