A little overconfident from yesterday, and this course smacked me down a notch. Mistakes on 4, 5, bad route to 8, mistakes on 8 (fuzzy head), 13, 14 (!) Fatigue was more of a problem than navigation, especially near 8 where I attacked from the WRONG TRAIL BEND and thought "Oh, the map doesn't quite match up, that's OK." See splits for the gory details (4 turned out to be the worst.) Despite all that, good enough for 3rd (Darius 12 min and Patrick 24 min ahead)

Hiking 2:10:00 [2] 9.0 km (4.2 kph)
shoes: Denver Salomons

Kevin, Ian, Joan, me, Andrea and the boys hiked at Spirit Sands, out to the Devil's Punchbowl and then to the dunes. Cool stuff.

WCOC Day 1 course 8. Fairly easy course that was good to get adjusted to the terrain. Mistake on 3, suboptimal (i.e., bad) route on 4, bobble 6, slow leaving 7.

WCOC Sprint 3 at the Spruce Woods campground. There was a big snowstorm a day or two before, and 6 inch drifts left over. However, my course was flat and mostly snow free. Good warmup event (although no preparation for the coming days!)

Orienteering 7:02 [5] *** 1.66 km (4:14 / km)

Ran course 2 sans e-punch, trying to beat Kevin's time. Less trails than the other course.
