Event: QOC Avalon

Orienteering 1:00:00 [1] 2.0 mi (30:00 / mi)
(injured)

Had to put water out on the course. Unfortunately it wasn't convenient. I drove down a private road to put the first two sets out. This would have been fine but I got lost trying to get back to the car. After the 2nd water stop all I had to do was reverse my route back to the car. Instead, I ended up doing all kinds of wierd things and at one point was actually running away from the car. I lost about 10 minutes.
Last water stop was a mile away from the parking lot. I backpacked the water in taking the trails then dropped down to the closed road to head out.
Back is getting a little better. On actually jogged a good portion of the road run back.
Plenty of control pick uppers so I didn't have to go back out. Nice :).

Orienteering (Hanging controls) 5:00:00 [2]
(injured)

Not being able to run really makes it tough to get in/out of the woods. My back was good enough that I could shuffle along but I still had to stop and catch my breath as serious breathing is still uncomfortable.
I was able to get all the controls out before dark. It really helped that I had previosuly vetted everything so I didn't have to worry about checking the spots once I got out there.
My feet got cold whenever I stopped. Still about 2 inches of snow on the ground that was melting fast so my feet stayes soggy all day.
I hung 39 controls. Still have to put water out but I was worried about it freezing overnight so didn't even consider it.

Orienteering (vetting) 2:30:00 [1] 3.0 mi (50:00 / mi) +120m 44:28 / mi
(injured) shoes: O shoes: Falcons 06

Today was interesting. I had already planned to take off work early and finish vetting control locations for this Saturday's meet. Well, it snowed today but I decided to go anyway. Actually, it was snowing.
Trying to read the map, write changes... was very difficult. I had to keep wiping the snow off. Fortunately I had brought a plastic cover which kept the snow off when just walking but it was tough when I actually had to write. It was cold enough that I could usually just brush the snow off without it melting and getting the paper all wet.
By the end the snow was several inches deep which was making it hard to see features. I could see trails but couldn't judge the size of the trail. It was also hard to follow the white blazed trail. I did get all my vetting done but had hoped to remap the registration field. Although it was dark it was light enough with the snow to do this but the park ranger was there waiting for me to leave so he could lock up.
My back/ which is now the right side is healing very slowly. It still hurt to take deep breaths and twisting is definetely a no-no. This made it tough to trek on some of the steep hill sides on snow covered leaves. There were several times I stepped into a deep leaf pile when I didn't expect it and that just plain hurt.
