Run 44:00 [3]

Funderstorm suggested we head out to Pinehurst Lake CA to pre-run the Toad course - sounded like a stellar idea, and gave us somewhere new to run for a Tuesday night adventure. We arrived, got ready to run, locked up the car.... and I locked my keys in the car. Dang-nabbit. So... the planned 1.5 hours of running, became an hour of chit-chatting while we waited for CAA to arrive, then 45 minutes of running on quickly darkening trails, then very dark trails. :) Funny thing is that I'd debated grabbing a headlamp... hindsight - 20-20. :) Fun run anyway, and an extra element of adventure!

Note

Wedding = done
Now it's time to get back to training... 8 hour rogaine and 25 km trail run coming up!

Note

SI joint verrrry sore today. Sneezing hurts... bad sign for standing in heels all day as a bridesmaid on Friday... sigh.

Run 59:00 [3]

TNT run with Funderstorm. Good to get out and stretch the legs a little. The SI is a bit sore and the legs burned a little more than usual, but all in all it felt pretty good!

Good chat with Funderstorm and plans in the works for a rogaine next month! :)

Adventure Race race 16:00:00 [3]

Wilderness Traverse - 24 hour race

First off, the following must be said (and probably more than once for good measure!) - Bob and Barb did an amazing job with this race! The course was great - lots of route choice, excellently organized and executed. The volunteers on the course and at HQ (thanks Dee!) made it an all-around positive experience and kept us motivated through the TAs and CPs. Thanks to everyone who helped pull off this event - amazing. :)

Long first trek. Teammate had some foot issues pretty soon after the trek started, and they got worse as we went. Lots of time spent trying to fix the feet, but in the end we were moving really slowly through the trek. Our nav was pretty good through this section - a few glitches, but all in all pretty on.

End of Trek #1 (CP4 / TA1) and Blob and Panda were done their race. Wasn't sure if the remaining two of us would be allowed to carry on, we had the TA staff check in with HQ. I was going to nav, and were given the green light to move on with only two of us on a modified bike section (Thanks Bob and Barb!!!).

Started the bike with a 'lovely' 4 km hike-a-bike. Mac16666 wasn't feeling too stellar (I *might* have goaded him a little into getting on his bike in the first place...) but we just kept steadily moving forward at a slow pace towards the next CP. Mac16666 ate a little and had some fluids and by the time we hit the gravel road was feeling much better so we picked up the pace and had a great ride up to CP5.

From CP 5, we headed east instead of west on our 'short course' to head straight to CP8 / TA2. Saw another team at the highway who was headed back to the Finish on bike, and they shared some smartfood popcorn with us (YUM!), and after a quick visit we headed on up to the Paddle section.

Paddle started with a gorgeous clear night but slowly became quite foggy. Had a little trouble with one portage (oops), but otherwise the paddle went quite well. Feeling a little sleepy, but otherwise good. :) We did the short-course paddle, skipping CP10.

CP11/TA3 we managed a pretty good transition to the last trekking section which was a trail run. We managed a solid shuffle-run for this section which really felt good - finishing with smiles.

Thanks Mac16666 for keeping going, and Panda for meeting us at the finish line - it was good to see you there! :)

As a first timer at the 24 hour AR, I really enjoyed the format. I have learned a lot about myself, particularly my unwillingness to quit. :) I had a good time and really enjoyed seeing others on the course - lots of friendly faces and quick laughs to be had with other teams.

Run 40:00 [3]

Run through Awenda while the other ladies were still sleeping... then I ate twice as many calories as I burned in the form of french toast to help prepare for WT. ;)

Hike 2:30:00 [2]

Hike in Awenda Provincial Park (easy terrain)

Run (Trail) 1:00:00 [3]

TNT - wasn't really feeling it tonight. Tried my new shoes for the second time, and started to get blisters again, so I'm thinking they'll be relegated to hiking status for now... maybe permanently. Looks like the Peregrine's will be coming to WT. They seem a bit 'light', but they are super comfortable - never so much as a twinge... will try a few things out hiking this weekend to make the final call.

Wasn't feeling great for this run, but good to get in some hills after intervals yesterday - including an extra run up 'Black Bra' - really make the legs work. Legs are tired. Will let them rest tomorrow since I'm on 'wedding photo editing' and packing detail. :)

Run 10:00 [2]

Warm-up and Cool-down for intervals.

Intervals 38:00 [5]

Intervals - increasing intensity.
2@7, 7.5, 8.0, 8.5 then back down. 1 minute on, one off. Resting pace 6. Incline 2.
Wasn't sure the legs and lungs were going to get me through those 6 intervals at the top, but they did (barely). :)

Weights 20:00 [2]

Upper body

Road Bike 3:06:00 [3] 83.4 km (2:14 / km)

Had a great ride with Bash and 'Bent. We rode from my place up to Elora, took an extra detour to Fergus for lunch, back to Elora for smoothies, then home. Good ride, good food, good company. Can you ask for more than that? :)

Bash has a much more detailed account of the ride for those interested in the tale. ;)

Mountain Biking 1:20:00 [3]

Ride at Puslinch with Funderstorm. It was first time out there - pretty nice trails and lots of options to loop around in there. Funderstorm was my guide and we hit some really nice sections in there. I wouldn't have found them alone! Had dinner at the Old Marina Restaurant - it's a little gem if you're out there!

Orienteering 55:00 [4]

Stars Wednesday night training. First time I've been out to one. Fun to be out orienteering again. Need to get out more often - the run ing skills were feeling pretty good, navigation skills were ok but had to slow down a few times between flags. Messed up one control a bit, and as I got toward the end of the course the flags had been picked up, so I didn't run the last two controls figuring Tiny would be waiting for me. I ended up back before him, so I probably just should've run the last couple controls with or without the flags for practice. Ah well, I know for next time.
Glad I got out. Had a long few days getting a proposal out so the couch had looked awefully tempting. :)

Run (warm-up) 10:00 [3]

Tuesday Aug 2, 2011 #

Note

No TNT tonight. Big proposal for work = 15 hour work day.

Monday Aug 1, 2011 #

Note

Knees still a little tender and stiff today, but not too bad, I expect that by tomorrow, they'll be feeling looser - just in time for TNT! Will ice them tonight. Curious how the leg muscles will feel for the hills... they felt great after the long run, and didn't seize up overnight, so we'll see what they say to me tomorrow. :)
