Orienteering (Snowshoe) 3:00:59 [3] 22.5 km (8:03 / km)
Was really looking forward to the race (even though (or even better) that there was no snowshoes needed! Scott and I planned to get most CPs going clockwise around the first section but there were may bailout points. The race started well and the first 4-5 CPs did not present too much of an issue. Our first hiccup was when we were heading to a CP in the ravine but at some point along way, I got confused and though we were headed to the CP we just came from; no surprise the map was not matching the terrain. A quick consulation with SS who pointed out that we had already got the one I thought we were going to and a few minutes later we were at the correct CP. Hit the next CP but then must have run right past the next 2 without finding them (I think they were 149 and 150). It was hard to figure out where we were so we just headed to the main trail and kept on going to 153 (which again was troublesome for us...by this point, I had lost all confidence in my navigating). Got the rest in the first section without issue and headed for the long run back. We opted to stay op top to get the 30 points by the bridge and then the two 60 pointers in the farmers field. When we hit 201, the first one in the farmers field, we figured that we were going to be out of time and headed back to the road to run back (it seemed a bit shorter on the map and more road). In the end, after a frantic run down the hill, we made it back only 59 seconds late. Would have been later if we got 208 so it was proably a good move.
In the end, it was a great day to be out and in the forest. It was another great race course; well done Bob.
