This is so cool! Do they all have their own skis?

Hermes:
Most parents bought new skis (welcome to Thornbury!) while others had some or bought used equipment.

I just love it because we're kind of like the misfit team of Beaver Valley - all a bit quirky (teachers included) and found something we like doing together and that's being outside in the snow.

We're even going to a race at Sawmill!!

Woohoo! It's like the Jamaican Bobsled Team. I'll bet your enthusiasm will take you a long way.

This is awesome. Will we see a transition to a school orienteering team to race at Schools Champs race in April too?

"Kick Double-Pole"...a Doughty put that in ours heads, too. And now I pretty much repeat it every time I classic ski.

I AM impressed.
So are you taking the kids next Sunday to Sawmilll? Or is there an elementary kids race there some other day?

It's the Bluewater Elementary Novice Ski Race - Feb 13th!

Yes, at Sawmill. I think the course is 2.5km which is about what we do 2x per week at tomahawk. Also a few of our kids ski on weekends with family at kolapore. We're developing this team! ;)

Bless all you teachers who go above and beyond.

In the last couple years I was in elementary school, one of our teachers, Mr Bumstead (no kidding) put a lot of time and effort into running an after school XC ski program at our school. He even convinced another couple schools in the county to do something similar and we had a loppet at the end of the season. None of the cool kids XC skied.....so it was a new (and terrific) experience for many of us to be part of a school sports team.
Now when I need to answer that password security question "who was your favourite teacher", y'all know what the answer might be.

Teachers: you do make a difference in a child's life!

Outdoorsmama, nice to hear you had such a positive experience. I have to say I had a big smile on the favourite teacher password comment!
