I wouldn't beat yourself up about that route choice; it looks perfectly fine on the map. So unless you had prior knowledge of what the woods were like, you couldn't have known that it was so bad.

Yeah, that's what a few other people said: that the light-green on the Sprint map was much thicker and nastier woods than the light-green on the two previous days' maps. Oh well...
