Has there been a consideration given to the request to have late start times for the Saturday NAOC Middle so that the obviously small but obviously hardy group who are trying to also compete in the WMOC on that Friday, could be accommodated?

T/D I hope you are also asking that directly to the COC/NAOC organizers. Not all events are equipped to handle inquiries sent to them indirectly through AP, Facebook secondary pages or the like.
It is a good question

Hi folks. We would love to try to accommodate people coming from WMOC to the NAOC races. Please e-mail our team at naoc@ottawaoc.ca to help with any regsitration inquiries and start time requests. Thank you for bringing up the question!

I don't think this is an individual-level inquiry. Because of IOF event rules, likely the entire start window for the affected (all Masters) categories should begin and end later in the day, which will affect overall race logistics. That's why I inquire; making scheduling changes will be too difficult for the organizers at some point soon.

T/D I guess you have looked at the flight schedules between Barcelona and Ottawa.
I guess you will know that if one can get to Barcelona airport and loaded on a plane by 1 pm on Friday they can get to the NAOC race arena easy peasy by NAOC Middle first starts AND get a good night's sleep in between.
I guess you know that if someone can get on a flight by 3 pm that person will be in Ottawa just after midnight and can get to the NAOC in time but not so well-rested.
After 3 pm means a long layover somewhere in Europe and an arrival in Ottawa mid-afternoon Saturday.
So a person looking to do that adventurous, aggressive and probably historic double should be looking for start time accommodations at both ends.

Not sure a flight from Barcelona is going to be much use when the event's in Finland :-).

IOF rules only govern the elite and (older) junior classes at NAOC (the rest are covered by local rules), but WMOC start times are governed by position in previous races. (I did once run in a WMOC where one of the favourites deliberately lost time in the qualifier because he had a flight to make and didn't want to start late in the final).

What was I looking at? I'm sure it was a WMOC 2024 event websitre identifying a venue just north of Barcelona. My bad!
Damn, it was WMOC 2025! But funny thing the timelines still apply.
You just have an extra hour or so to leave Finland than Spain.

Just speculating, and not trying to sound snippy, but I would imagine the organizers might not want to move potentially half of the competitors to a later start time due to the likely heat and air quality changes during the day at that time of year. So I would take them up on their offer of discussing individual start time adjustments.
