Why were the police there? Were they enforcing a "no dogs" policy or trying to find the paint culprits?

Seemed to be watercolor or some washable paint because Kent got it off with water and scraping. The police were there because it appears the culprit called them because of the dogs after having done the paint job (not really smart). So the police came to ticket our friend for the dog offense but ended up taking a report re the vandalism and giving our friend a warning.

any warning given to the guy who called about the dogs/painted the car?

He didn't hang around but everyone seems convinced it's the guy who lives next to the trailhead. Did you see the pics?
