No, fortunately that doesn't happen. It appears that someone edited last year's event to change the year from 2012 to 2013, rather than creating a new Attackpoint event. This messed up a couple of things in AP, including transferring all of last year's participants to this year's event.
The AP name of person who edited the event is Johnny M, in case you decide to let him know. The right thing to do is change it back to the old date, then create a new event. For anyone who *did* do the 2012 race, AP provides a link to their log entry from the 2012 event page, which can be interesting to people hoping to learn about it.
