I hope your legs and your sanity survive the weekend.
Will Jacko be live blogging his pub visits whilst supporting you?
Hope the weekend is full of Good Times! Madman.
Good luck Dolf. Pity it wasn't last week to coincide with the Nanga Challenge, then you would have had a few more supporters around.
Thanks guys.
Sanity went long ago, hoping legs will keep falling for the "just get through this & I'll never run again" promise.
I had scare this morning with my back/neck seizing up but a visit to the physio & another one tomorrow should fix that.
Jacko is off galavanting around disneyland at the moment but I've got a good support crew & a pacer from 116-146km's.
If anyone is around Jarrahdale around 4-5:30 on Saturday & wants a very easy paced run/walk to either Kingsbury Rd (14km) or Nth Dandalup Dam (31km) let me know... It'll be a lovely day for running (or judging by the weather forecast someone could paddle alongside me)
Looking forward to it... what could go wrong?
Think you'll find most people here will be at Spice Brook and/or resting up for Sunday's race.
Good luck anyway. I'm regretting my decision to sign up for 6 inch due to my calf issue and that's only a fraction of the distance.
Keep smiling Dolf - just think about all us silly orienteers crashing through the prickly vegetation while you trundle along nice open tracks...
Good luck mate - sorry I couldn't be there to "support" you with my unique brand of heckling, but I'm sure you can imagine it and be glad I'm not there. :)
ps. nutter.
Haha, silly orienteers.
You may get a call around 3am Juffy... You'll know what to do.
Haha....at 3am you're going to get something waaay out the other side of "heckling". :p
Can't wait to hear about it, knowing how wet and cold I got today!
Maybe it didn't rain where Dolf was and he instead got the fine weather that Jennifer promised us in the KK welcome brochure.
Looking at the FB photos, he was a drowned rat. And finished in 27.55.31
Well done mate!
Thanks.
Dwellingup had 43.6mm of rain, 16°C at the start then dropping to around 10-12° for the remainder of the day. Almost all the course was either flowing like a creek or huge pool size puddles. I came into the 116km aid station still a chance for for a possible sub 24hr finish. About 12 km's out from the next aid station at Dell Park I stopped to change my ayup battery and just like flicking a switch I was gone. I started dry reaching, shivering uncontrollably & lost any desire to move. My pacer Ian gave me his jacket, beanie & gloves, then found a couple of sticks I could use like trekking poles & got me moving again... although you would have needed a time lapse shot to see any actual movement, over 2 hours to cover 5kms at one stage. I was convinced I wouldn finish & when Mike passed me going up the long hill after Torrens rd I dropped from 3rd to 4th position & although he was only walking up the hill he passed me so quick we could only exchange a few words before he was gone. Eventually we got to Dell Park rd & I decided I couldn't pull out if it was still possible to finish & the only way to finish was if I had a proper rest. I had some pain killers & anti nausea tablets, got wrapped in blankets and snoozed on & off for almost an hour. I then slammed a couple of red bulls & was off again although now on target for a 28 hour finish but at least now I felt I could finish. From there on it was just a walk in the park.
Good times.
