Course Clearing the Big Mack Rogaine
Mark was thinking it would take more than 10 hours. I felt like 10 hours was long but I made some shortcuts to from the race rules to save myself some time in hopes of getting it done. These were probably comparable to the time lost carrying around all the controls.

I had a good route plan and executed that well. I made a couple math mistakes early on calculating pace distance and elevation change (m to ft). I probably could/should have adjusted my watch to m. Cost me a few minutes hear and there. Otherwise hitting most of the controls even some tough ones cleanly.

My distance travelled to Ottari was much farther than I estimated but the time was still reasonable to finish in 10 hours (as long as the second half distance was still comparable).

While sending a safety message to Mark/KT I lost a water bottle. I wasn't too worried because there had been quite a bit of water on course so far.

Ae I left Ottari I had to reattack the last O-control. Not surprised. I had planned to go the other direction but a change in plans for dropping controls lead me to reverse it again so I would carry less controls for the rest of the back half. I had a feeling it was farther over but other indicators were telling me not. (8 mins)

As I was leaving Ottari I noticed the creek that I expected to be full was almost empty. So I stopped and did some major hydration and cooling and filled my one bottle. I then stopped 2 more times in the next 30 mins when I found opportunities to put a little more in/refill my bottle. (lost 10 mins) Then I started rationing.

I dropped my map at one point and had to go back and get it (5 mins). I was also dropping my pack when I could which was fairly frequent.

Hit some trails as I got back to Powhatan and ran some but slowed down getting the O-controls. The trail that was supposed to be faded was mostly good. I did have laurel shwack down one spur though.

Finished just barely over 2 hours.

Got really bad chafing in my armpits from the red UnderArmour shirt. I've had this problem before and don't wear it in races. Need to remember not to wear it ever for more than an hour.

Legs were still tired during the warmup and not much better on the 800s. They loosened up for the rest of the workout but pace was a bit slower and I felt they were close to giving in but I kept it at the right pace to manage.

Times were similar to my slower times.

My water bottle fell out while descending the driveway so I stopped for a Gatorade bottle at Snuffy's.

Watch was dead so I used Strava.

HealthCare 1 [0]

Hematologist appointment to discuss my chronically and seriously low iron count. Put together a plan to get IV injections to start restoring my counts. Also have some tasks for figuring out the cause (test KT, visit a GE doc so we can rule out some absorption issues).
