Heading down to Cave Creek and Rough River first thing tomorrow. Finish maps and get the control locations approved by the Corp.

Orienteering race 36:57 [5] 2.41 km (15:20 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia NI

My first all out run since the accident. Best speed I have posted in quite awhile. Actually won a split on the Green Course. The course length was more of a short Brown.

Orienteering 38:00 [3] 2.1 km (18:06 / km)

The Line Training Course - You had to follow the line on the map through the woods. 8 streamers were randomly placed along the line. The idea was to find all 8 as you followed the line. I found 7 - interesting exercise.

Orienteering 46:35 [3] 1.45 km (32:08 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia NI

On this training course you had 5 controls in a white space of the map. You had to use a bearing and pace counting to get from control to control. Very frustrating for me since I don't orienteer this way, but it was great practice.

Got the splits printer to work with the download box. The baud rate of the box was not in synch with the splits printer.

My Meet Director Notes from the Goat

Under cloudy grey skies and a 58 degree temperature the 2013 Goat meet finally happened on 13 September 2014. This was perfect weather for a meet.

Missing this year from the Goat was the old goat himself, Louis Smith. Many were concerned about him wondering if he had been sent to a rest home. He is doing well and promises to be at the 2014 Goat meet. Somehow the meet just was not the same without Louie’s infamous pre-meet briefing.

The first 3 in on the Kid were River, Dominic and Michaela all from Apollo. Michaela being the first female in was given an annual membership by OUSA courtesy of National Orienteering Week. Chris, Clayton and Alyssa were the first three in on the Junior Goat. Clayton and Alyssa are both from Apollo. Just finishing the Junior turned out to be a feat since more than ½ of the participants were MP’s.

The first three in on the Full Goat were Dan, Rob and Bruce. Anthony and Aaron were right there with the first three but skipped three instead of two controls resulting in a MP. Also finishing the full Goat with respectable times were Aaron Conway from Warren East (very few high school students finish so congratulate him), our friends from adventure racing La’Reshia, Pete, Jay Club members Ted, Anne Sophia and Louis III, Melissa (her first time on a full Goat so congratulate her).

Special thanks to all who helped with the meet. Control pickup is tough after a Goat since no one has legs left but Anthony, Arnie, Bruce, Diane, Kim, and Steve all pitched in. This help was greatly appreciated.

Arnie was the grill master cooking about 95 hot dogs. He said afterwards he reeked of hot dogs all the way to Bowling Green and does not know if he will ever be able to eat/cook another one.
