Note

Just realised this week is pretty much my highest volume week (in distance run) which is pretty cool. No wonder my legs hurt!
Here's to a fun & enjoyable & exciting 2018.

Note
(sick)

Making a note of when the hoarse chest started in case it turns into something exciting.
10 AM

Orienteering 1:25:33 intensity: (58:04 @1) + (27:29 @2) 5.59 km (15:18 / km) +148m 13:31 / km
ahr:126 max:142 shoes: Red Mudclaws

O training on Carnawaddy - top notch training again this year. I am so slow! Some extreme rustiness on navigation (mostly imprecision in the circle - visualise the detail!!) though no major blunders. When it comes to Carlingford, I'll take that as a win.
Knees are really sore but bizarrely yesterday seems to have improved all the other aches & pains. Getting kinda hoarse in my chest (I know that doesn't really make sense) and wouldn't be at all surprised if I come down with something.
And here ends 5k a day (today is pushing the definition of 'running' but it'll do). Def not going to keep it going, my body needs training variety, and a rest day, but I am rather impressed at it lasting this long. Not on the scrapheap just yet :)

Running 35:05 intensity: (9:31 @1) + (20:00 @2) + (2:49 @3) + (1:12 @4) + (1:33 @5) 5.05 km (6:57 / km) +75m 6:28 / km
ahr:135 max:169 shoes: Dark blue Nimbus

Wallace parkrun, what a grim morning, even parkrun couldn't brighten it.
Taking it v easy due to Cracker later (and v DOMSy calves who really didn't enjoy the downhilling). Imagine my upset-ness at having SVT anyway, at about 4.7km, when I tried to up the speed just a tiny amount. Ugh.
Will try again to ring the hospital. Cardiologist's secretary doesn't work Fridays.
1 PM

Running 2:01:53 intensity: (3:55 @1) + (53:06 @2) + (1:02:09 @3) + (2:43 @4) 14.57 km (8:22 / km) +449m 7:15 / km
ahr:144 max:156 shoes: Orange Salomon Speedcross 4

Castlewellan Christmas Cracker with Davy. Really awesome course, proper muddy in places. Only blemish was some sort of mud-related bottleneck in the fields - we jumped a couple of fences to get round though I hear someone lost 10 minutes standing in the queue! Some really cool singletrack through the forest though I was stuck behind someone and had to walk a large chunk.

I had to take it really slowly on account of my dodgy heart, which nearly caused a diplomatic incident early on, as Davy was faster than me and hadn't explored a slower gear before. His 'run ahead then stop & wait' approach wasn't working for me. We survived though :)

Felt much better for the final run along through the forest (the flatter stuff) so was able to shout encouragement to Davy, who has never run > 80 minutes before and did superbly.

Would dearly love to be cured next year and able to run hard. Really pleased though to be SVT-free on this run.

Strength & Conditioning (Yoga) 1:00:00 [1]

First time at Yoga Quarter - nice space. They could vacuum the stairs and then the floor of the studio would be cleaner!!!
Nice teacher - I think she was taught at the other studio I go to, would make sense, similar style.
I did not look after my legs at all after y'day's exertions (no stretching, drinking cocktails, rubbish sleep) so remains to be seen whether I try day 29 of Marcothon today.
2 PM

Running 4:12 [2] 0.59 km (7:07 / km) +3m 6:56 / km
shoes: Dark blue Nimbus

Failed attempt at running with the dog; she was having none of it
3 PM

Strength & Conditioning (Pilates) 1:00:00 [1]

Proper home workout - kick everyone out, my music on, 12 pick n mix exercises. Think I had a mini breakthrough on obliques roll back. Always learning :)

Running 32:48 [2] 4.5 km (7:17 / km) +16m 7:10 / km
shoes: Dark blue Nimbus

Extremely easy run to get my 5k in. Calves felt fine during, but they're on fire now. In the injury risk red zone, with the Cracker tomorrow & Carlingford on Sunday..........oh so wise.

Hill Walking 2:00:00 [1] 10.6 km (11:19 / km) +841m 8:06 / km
shoes: Icebugs (mucho expensivo)

Actual time 5h 30min including all stops.
Waggy Races ascent of Donard, so happily Veda towed me uphill and even more happily, she was quite well-behaved for the steeper downhills so I didn't go on my face.
Perfect winter's day; was cold though = LOTS of ice. Slipped once and didn't squash the dog. Winning. Just a little bit of snow from the saddle upwards, made it very pretty and gave some grip, but not enough to impede progress. V enjoyable.

Running 35:24 [2] 5.06 km (7:00 / km) +37m 6:45 / km
ahr:160 max:181 shoes: Icebugs (mucho expensivo)

Home & straight out the door again for my 5k. Feeling a bit tired and knees a bit sore, but got it done. Icy again underfoot.
Then straight for dinner, out for drinks, bad idea.
HR data is garbage, monitor slipped.

Orienteering 1:03:17 intensity: (4:49 @1) + (28:51 @2) + (22:43 @3) + (3:28 @4) + (3:26 @5) 6.11 km (10:22 / km) +111m 9:30 / km
ahr:143 max:180 shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3 (blue)

NWOC Christmas event, Ballykelly Forest.
Seems it's been a long long time since I've been in terrain. Navigation was un-taxing thankfully, but I cannot attack terrain. It was rough enough underfoot, and v wet with lots of branches down which made it tricky enough.
You can see SVT as I reached the road for the return run (that was one of my 'just ignore it' moments and I kept on going. Not really sure why I thought that would be a good idea).
Don't know what the blip is between 15 & 16, it may be genuine, I was certainly track running at that point.

Did manage to remember to pace on the earlier controls - I was hitting about 40 for 100m so either I can't measure distance on the move, I can't count, my legs have got longer, or the map scale is out. I suspect the former.

Strength & Conditioning 21:00 intensity: (5:20 @0) + (15:40 @1)

Boxing day HIIT courtesy of Joe Wicks except his phone wouldn’t work so we did a YouTube version instead, Davy and I did.
Plus a wee bit of Pilates too.
10 PM

Running 32:58 intensity: (2:13 @1) + (16:28 @2) + (14:17 @3) 5.07 km (6:30 / km) +38m 6:16 / km
ahr:142 max:154 weight:59.9kg shoes: Dark blue Nimbus

Squeezing in the 5k before midnight. This is precisely the kind of day I would ordinarily not have run, so it's interesting that I can actually get out the door & tick off a few miles. Even if they are a bit junky.
Oh, I stood on the scales earlier, OMG!!!!!
11 PM

Strength & Conditioning (Pilates) 15:00 [1]

Keeping going.

ahr:135 max:168 shoes: Dark blue Nimbus

My heart has been feeling terrible, like every time I lie down to sleep it just feels so thumpy.
Anyway Wallace parkrun at a snail’s pace, wow I didn’t enjoy and I rarely say that about a parkrun. Just felt if I ran at any kind of pace I would’ve been in SVT land. I never was though.
