The Michigan Adventure Race: Winter Edition! Raced with Scott Eveningred. He's a fantastic race partner-worked together very well! We came in 37 out of 175 (21%ile) teams OA and 12th out of 107 coed (11%ile)--better than I had expected. This is intended as a fun race with challenges, for sure a first for me! Seemed pretty straightforward to go counter clockwise and most likely skip challenges early on...we did the math and with 175 teams (!!) things could back up. Sprint start for sure, and then realized I had a hard time breathing and coughed so hard! Oh no! Stupid cold.Well, we managed with me being slower.

So, we went for points and even early on had to wait just to punch. The snow was about 6-12 inches even on the trails. The first challenge was a word scramble where you were given a word, then had to think of five words to evolve to the last word they provided. WHA? Crossed my eyes, got to work, saw Mr. Wonderful take off, and realized it was a patten...then were were off. Second was counting tiny little O flags in a valley. Then O, O, O, and as we were wrapping things up, had to shoot a tennis ball for Scott to catch, then on to the snowshoe, fatbike, run, golf in snow and drop a tennis ball in a bucket from 10 thousand million feet in the air. Not sure if I'm down with the challenges. HR didn't seem right, but maybe it runs high when breathing is an issue, but then it tanked at the very end. Also want to note I may have fared better with my yak trax, but clothing choices were spot on.

Had a great time with Scott, and we think we might do the next race in the series. Too bad I might miss the one in August. Big shout out to MarkVT for the race and for building enthusiasm for the sport. There are some serious athletes he's attracting, and I couldn't be happier!

Control pickup. Did a little exploring along the way. Also, forgot my knife to cut the rip tie on one, thankfully had a lighter in my car to go back and melt it off. Beautiful place that Pickerel Lake.

Note

I think this cold is going to kill me. I leave all my AR gear to Maria. Mr. W can have my compasses and new plotting tools. The rest needs to be buried with me right here in the Badlands.
