Great training with Igor. Map here: https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=10224228473729...

Igor did a new map with his current streamers and I learned a lot. I will post the map when I get a chance to scan it in. Have a few moments before heading out the door. Started from almost his back door to an open area. He said "just go and share what you are doing." So I did!

Lesson #1, really commit to a plan.

Decided on trail to almost marsh and used depression to the saddle I couldn't really identify but saw the NWish RE and used that up to the open area.

Then to 2.

Lesson #2, exit strong and know where you are, because you do know where you are! USE YOUR COMPASS!

I struggled to strongly identify the features in that area and wasn't super sure. But, pulled to the correct RE and then...

Lesson #3 Really identify the clue and what is in the circle for the attack.

First of a few times that I wasn't clearly focused on the CP feature.

On to 3, Igor suggested a clearer route than what I had put together. So, it was a flatish RE to the trail then north on the trail until I could see glimpses of the marsh then probably turn in. I might have over run a yard or two on the trail, but it worked.

For #4 back to lesson #2, I felt good about the exit, but realized I wasn't strongly using the features around me and not correctly identifying them well either. Once that came into play, I could see better precisely where to go.

NOTE: I had pulled my things together to go to Igor's, and I had tightened the magnifying glass on my compass and promptly left it at home. :/ Igor loaned me a compass that was a little different but I got used to it. :)

To go to 5, I wanted to avoid a little mess of contours, but Igor encouraged me to head that way. I went up the RE, easily recognized the little mess, and then proceeded to the next feature. I got ahead of myself though, which would have made for a terrible attack, but got back in line.

To traverse to 6, I had thought it would be a good idea to take that super strong RE to the marsh and then cross the trails, use the trail for a strong AP, round the gill and then bearing to the feature. Which led me to lesson learned #4...

Lesson #4 Really, just avoid the green The feature can serve you just as well as a handrail.

So we moved to the north. I kept looking at the RE as though it was going away, but no there it was the whole time. :) Got to the marsh fine, crossed the trails and used the trail to the hill, and then got a smidge flummoxed once I got to the tip of the spur. and mis judged once I was on the hill, but being slower certainly helps in this situation.

The leg to 7 was short, and revealed lesson #5

Lesson #5--Just go up the hill.

Went down the spur and up the hill and there it was. I was prepared to way over complicate it. Exit west or east, around the hill, up the contours....needed to trash that thinking!

On my way to 8 I floated so badly--but what's worse is that I had to re learn again Lesson #3. And Lesson #6 cropped up too...

Lesson #6--This isn't the Wild West, slow down cowboy and stay in contact with the map and the terrain.

Travelled north around the top of the depression, to the marsh, and thought the point was in a depression. NOPE. It was a knoll. And, because of that I was staying low and convinced myself to stay by the hill that should have been more of a guiding feature than the feature it was practically on. Gah.

Had a hard time making a plan to 9, and Igor suggested Lesson #7:

Lesson #7 Use a strong feature to build your route.

Aha! A "big" hill! I used the big hill, then a contour line, and then he pointed out that once I was up on that line that it didn't really matter which RE to take because they really merged anyway.

From 9 to 10, taking a step back it seemed clear to just get to the trail in the most reasonable way possible, run south on the trail and turn west into the wide valleyish RE. I used the prominent gully, then seemed to lose my self very close to the circle. If there had been a flag might have been OK, but really, should have maintained closer contact with the map which revolved back to lesson #6.

From 10 to 11 it went back to Lesson #7. Igor suggested getting up on the hill toward the recessed RE as a known point and round the hill to the flag. Success!

11 to 12 I went over the hill, and kept looking for features that I just couldn't seem to connect with. I am thinking back and maybe should have simplified my route more. I had decided to go over the hill and hook up with the hillish feature that looked over the marsh. I got flummoxed and forgot Lesson # 3 and just cruised past the control. I saw in the circle a slight tick down, but the circle center was on a rootstock just before going down.

Learned a lot in this lesson. Now to apply!!!

Forgot I had to complete my election worker training yesterday and still watched the last but on the trainer this morning. Still a little stunned our county sheriff is allowing open carry to the polls. The training didn’t cover that!

Was going great until the mile 5ish trip/fall/superman/turned ankle and busted up knee. Recovered a bit with some ibuprofen and using Angel's poles. Great to get out today. Work has been more than challenging these days.
