Israel O League, Park Sayeret Shaket, near Beersheba.
Long course, 10.9/340
Orienteering country no. 50

Admittedly the travelling has been a little insane recently, but here I was in deepest Israel ready for a new adventure, having spent the previous night walking around Tel Aviv.

The terrain was quite special, open spur-gulley ‘savannah’ with a load of earthwalls but otherwise very little in the way of running impediment.

This being very likely my only ever time Oing in Israel, it seemed apt to pick the longest course, as opposed to M45 which was only 6k. Or so I thought, before I arrived here utterly pooped from early getups all week.

Navigation was relatively straightforward given the visibility, but running just wasn’t really going to happen today so I pootled around and even walked a few of the hills when I just CBA anymore.

The result was an embarrassing +30 minutes to the winner (11 hilly km in 51 though, respect!) but I was of course much enriched in terms of experience :-)

Otherwise an Israeli event is much like any other, except that they had an excellent filled heated flatbread stand, which hit just the spot.

Today Jerusalem, tonight Haifa and then back tomorrow. I might take a few months’ break now though.

In Berlin for work.

As much as I hate early morning runs, I actually quite like early morning runs. Especially round a city like Berlin, where you can literally feel all the historical events unfolding around every corner. I really must come back with the kids sometime.

Calves were very tight but it was Baltic for my standards (-5C), and it appears I sped up quite a lot near the end (first k = 5.30, last k = 4.30) so perhaps that didn't help.
