Orienteering 1:05:59 [3] **** 4.3 km (15:21 / km) +95m 13:49 / km
spiked:5/10c (sick) shoes: Olway Tiger

Day 2 of the Odda 2-dagars meet. Opted to run the shorter women's course today, since yesterday was such a long day and I'm still not feeling 100%. Was really not "with it" today; poor navigation overall. Lost 10 minutes on the 2nd control (Jesus!!), but since I made my way back to the line, Heather caught me and we ran the rest of the race together. Probably caused problems, since we were both sort of relying on each other to do some navigating, which made us lazy. Doh! Missed some more time on a long leg to #3, then a few problems with attacking a couple other controls. Felt really tired today, with heavy breathing and snot rockets galore. Oh well, had lots of fun, and although the terrain was tough, it was still stunning.

Orienteering 30:00 [1]
(sick) shoes: Olway Tiger

Map walk with Sandy and Heather on the Reinsnosvatnet map. Much less technically demanding than yesterday's map, but still really nice terrain. Visited a few controls, then it was back to the cottage for some rest for the afternoon's race.

Day 1 of Odda 2-dagars O-meet. Lost some time on #2 (was in the right area but had trouble figuring out EXACTLY where I was...). Took my time navigating, since I couldn't run at full speed due to my cold. Ran cleanly for most of the race, which I was pleased with. Far back behind the leader of the course (Sandy), but overall I'm content.

Hiked up to the glacier near the maps we've been running on (not sure of the name). Present were: Heather, Sandy, Holger, Wil, Katta, Mia (youngest person to make it up to the glacier??), Ingville, Toshi, and me. Quite impressive, indeed! Beautiful views, lots of climb, tough going in some places, but well worth the trek.

Orienteering (Sprint-O) 15:26 [2] **
spiked:8/11c (sick) shoes: New Balance 906 Off-Road

Ran a short sprint-O designed by Holger on the Hove map near where he grew up in Arendal. Fun course, really nice area, including beach terrain. No huge problems other than the first control, which required navigating through a camping area that has changed a lot since the map was made 10 years ago. Somewhat unsure of my location while attacking a couple other controls, but other than that, good times!

KOK training camp in the mountains, near Odda. Ran on the Lontjorn map, in a SUPER technical area, which I'm not used to. Took me a little while to get used to the map and all the little "knolls" vs "boulders" (lots of rock features - everything looks like boulders to me!!), plus the sheer number of marshes!! Lots of fun once I FINALLY figured out how to navigate through the madness!

Orienteering 1:00:00 [2] ****

Orienteering training with Heather on the Fjaere map (site of the long distance qualification race at WOC 1997). Tough, tough terrain, which demanded a lot of attention, both technically and physically; lots of rock features and THICK underbrush (heather, blueberry bushes, small trees... you name it) that requires a lot of work to navigate through. Took it slow so we could really get a feel for the terrain and stay in touch with the map. I much prefer nice, open white woods with good visibility, but this was a good challenge!!

Running 1:00:00 [2]
ahr:139 shoes: New Balance 906 Off-Road

Really nice run with Sandy and Heather on some smaller trails in Jegersberg, here in Kristiansand. Lots of rocks and roots underfoot, decent amount of climb, and mostly single-file running. Beautiful terrain here - very technical, with lots of rock features!! Ran at an intensity at which we could carry on a fun conversation - I miss being able to do that!! Talked about our goal of an eventual "all sisters relay". One day, Sandy... ;) Off to Arendal tomorrow morning to visit with Holger's family.

p.s. YES, I am new to AttackPoint; since WOC I've been inspired to keep an official log of my training, so this will (hopefully!) keep me motivated. I'll be throwing on some of my older runs/trainings from Aarhus (although I really shouldn't - they're almost too embarrassing to publish!) and possibly pre-WOC if I feel up to it.

Running 39:48 [2]
shoes: New Balance 906 Off-Road

Another simple run with Heather on the Jergesberg trails. Ran up to Holmenkollen (obviously not the ski hill in Oslo). Heard lots of gunshots and wondered if we were near a shooting range; turns out that we circled a skeet shooting range. Lovely. Calf muscles still sore, but much better today. Still stretching them lots.

Running 23:02 [1]
shoes: New Balance 906 Off-Road

Easy, easy run with Heather on the trails of Jegersberg. Nice to give the ol' calves some exercise; they are feeling worse today (typical case of DOMS - delayed onset of muscle soreness). Lots of stretching.
