Paddle 59:00 [3] 9.5 km (9.7 kph)

Around Elk and Beaver Lakes. A few too many weeds in Beaver Lake. It is amazing how much even a few weeds stuck on your rudder can slow you down - my pace would drop a km and a half an hour and it felt like I was pulling an anchor. Beautiful weather which was amazing considering the weather up island.

Note

Unfortunately no Momar for me tomorrow... can't run properly. Hopefully the weather improves for those who will be out there. It was a full on storm in the Comox valley this morning.

Bike 1:00:00 [2] +250m

Nice ride on Hornby Island. Rained a bit but not as much as the forecast called for. Rode up the Ridge trail and then down a different way. Great views from the escarpement. Ride got cut short when I had a nice crash while chasing the dog who was about to take off after some deer. Log broke under my foot and I fell onto my left thigh onto another log. Got a nice charlie horse. Walking downhill hurts - we'll see about running tomorrow. At least the dog listened (eventually) and came back...

Run 52:00 [2] 8.5 km (6:07 / km) +100m 5:47 / km

Run on the trail back and forth on the trail between Florencia beach and Combers beach in Pacific Rim National Park, then a little extra on Flo beach. Ankle was sore today. Saw a bear frolicking on the beach.

Bike 50:00 [3] +250m

Fast rip around Top Bridge park In Parksville. Small area but fun trails for a short exurcsion. I think I did every trail there.

Bike 1:20:00 [2] +250m

A couple loops around the Doumont trails in Nanaimo with Courtney. A bit wet so some of the rooty trails were tricky. The usual exploratory issues where some trails work better in the opposite direction than what we were riding but overall a fun area with lots of trails.

Bike 1:15:00 [2] +240m

Biking with Courtney at Hartland. Some fun sections however I always find it tough to maintain flow there since I don't know the best way to link the trails.

Hike 45:00 [1] +220m

Up and down Mt Doug.

Run race 1:52:00 [4] 10.0 km (11:12 / km) +400m 9:20 / km
ahr:150

BC Orienteering Champs long course at Thetis Lake in Victoria. Interestingly I have never done an official orienteering race so it was nice to be able to finally do one. I was a bit worried about my ankle however it held up OK. Ran well through the first six controls then totally screwed 7 and carried that over to 8. Wasted at least 20 minutes wandering around between the two of them. A couple other controls on the way back could have been a bit cleaner but no big errors. Finished 40 minutes behind the winner which was eye opening. Definetely was a bit rusty with rapid decision making, dealing with scale, and recognizing small scale features. Frustrating to make a couple big errors but still had fun. Hopefully I can do some more next year and redeem myself.
