Classic ski 2:50:00 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (1:00:00 @3) + (1:40:00 @4) 43.0 km (3:57 / km) +680m 3:40 / km

Cookie Race. Wasn't sure if I was coming down with something as I felt a bit tired in the few days leading up to the race. Kind of cold in the morning (-13) and tracks were not the fastest. Skis felt pretty even compared to the guys around me though. Grip was good. Sun came out and scenery was excellent - really enjoyed skiing these trails again. The narrow section on moraine and fox creek was especially fun.

Seeded myself pretty well and didn't have too much traffic to deal with off the start. The new start to pocaterra certainly has some extra small hills. Took it pretty easy for the first 13 km. Sat behind a guy with one arm for quite a while staying in his draft. The tracks were certainly faster behind him. Only hiccup was that I lost one of my honey stinger packages. Ate the other one before the whiskey jack climb. Didn't feel like I could hammer up the steep hills but felt strong on the moderate climbs where I could kick double pole with no problem. I had raced alone for a little but a group of five of us came together on the climb. I sat behind two of the guys for the whole section to elk pass and then went to the front for the double poling descent. I hadn't planned to eat any cookies but with my food loss earlier grabbed a couple at the top and they hit the spot. Couldn't drop the two guys I had been skiing with but we did catch one of the guys who had dropped us on the whiskey jack climb. On we passed through the feed zone I put my head down and went hard up the packers climb. Had a bit of a small gap to most of the guys at the top? Was feeling strong on the double poling and two of us pulled away. My chaser put a move on me with a couple km to go and I didn't have enough to stick with him on the new little hills coming into the finish and finished 20 seconds behind him.

Overall very happy with the race. 17th overall and about 20 min behind the winner. The winner is on the national development team and Brian Mckeever was second so some decent speed at the front. Interestingly both the winner and the third place racer are going to Sochi as guides for Brian. Last time I did this my time was 30 minutes slower and the winner was ten minutes faster. 2:39:20 actual time. Good to have some racers around me - kept me honest. A few km wax check at the start. The course is actually 41km not 42km.

Skate ski 40:00 [2] 8.0 km (5:00 / km) +150m 4:34 / km

Easy skate ski with Courtney. Fresh snow again so stable but slow skiing.

Classic ski 48:00 [2] 9.0 km (5:20 / km) +180m 4:51 / km

Easy classic ski. Felt OK - maybe a little fatigued still from last week. Big flakes of snow were falling making it scenic but slow.

Unspecified (Hockey) 1:10:00 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (40:00 @3) + (20:00 @4)

5 on 5 with only one sub so pretty tiring at times but a good skate.

Backcountry skiing 4:30:00 [2] +1400m

Last day of the trip. A bit more snow overnight but similar weather as things cleared through the course of the day. Went back to the Fish Lake zone for a couple laps. Also found a better line through Almira and then checked out the terrain beyond Lookout Notch. My skins were not happy today so let the rest of the crew do a fair amount of trail breaking as that seemed to be causing them to collect snow under them. Might be time for new skins.
